Code for binding source:
Component.DataSource = new BindingSource(yourSource, ????);
All the examples that I saw follow this patter, and instead of ????, I always see a null.
The Docs say the parameters are data source and data member, but I don't understand what is the purpose of the data member or how to use it.

The DataMember parameter is used when the source contains multiple columns, lists, or tables of data and you need to specify which one is being used. From the MSDN for the DataMember Property:
If the DataSource contains multiple lists (or tables) of data, you
should set the DataMember property to the name of one of the sources.
The constructor that you are asking about simply allows you to specify this property at instantiation.

C# - Can a Method Examine Another Method's Use of a Parameter?

I have a variety of methods that use a configuration object to fill in placeholders in a template. Different methods use different subsets of properties of the configuration object. I'd like an easy way to check that all the properties a given method uses are present in a given config object.
Right now I have a method like this:
private static void ValidateConfiguration(CustomerConfiguration config, params string[] properties)
This has the maintenance disadvantage that it relies on a separate set of strings for the properties used. What I'd love to do is have the validation method look at the calling method and see what properties of the config object are being accessed. Can this be done?
(I could also wrap String.Replace() in a method that checks for nulls, but that's less fun.)
A type safe way to handle your problem would be to implement several interfaces with different meaningful subsets of properties. My understanding is that the presence/absence of the properties in your case depends on the type of configuration object and is dynamic.

where T represent the interface and use reflection to list the required properties. While it would be practically impossible to parse the code of a method to infer its usages of a data structure, reflection on types (to extract properties) is fairly easy.
Different methods use different subsets of properties of the configuration object.
If you're only creating one instance of the configuration property, then the properties it needs to have are whichever ones are going to be used by any method. In other words, if at least one method needs that property, then the object needs that property.
In that case there's no need to validate it in relation to individual methods that need it. All of its properties need to be populated because they're all needed somewhere. If they're not needed anywhere, you can delete them.
Then, instead of validating that object based on the needs of a particular method, you validate it once, perhaps at startup. All of the properties are needed, so if they haven't been specified then the application just can't run. (Sometimes it's good to include defaults in your configuration object. You might have one property that you want to be able to configure, but in real life it's never going to change.)
If you're creating different instances of the same object for use in different methods and you only want to populate certain properties then it's better not to do that. Just create more granular objects for different scenarios containing all the properties you need.
What frequently happens is this: We have an object with lots of properties and we only use a few of them, so we populate those properties and pass the object to a method. The other properties are null.
Then, someone modifying that method decides that they need another property, so they try to use it, and they're surprised to find out that it's null. Then they have to go back and trace where that object was created and figure out what is populated or not. That's confusing and time-consuming.
Unless fields are entirely optional and it doesn't matter whether they are populated or not, we don't want to find ourselves looking at an object with lots of properties and guessing which ones have been populated because individual methods that create the object "know" which properties other classes do or don't need.

After deserialization set property in class that wasn't in dataset

The class I made exists of a bunch of properties. Most of the properties are included in the received dataset. After the deserialization of the dataset, I retreive a list of objects. So some of the properties where ignored by using 'jsonignore'.
In the objects I have a property for example called 'foo'. I want this property to be set before I continue.
A possible solution could be looping through the list and setting the property. --> but this seems like double work, because all items were just looped in the deserialization of json.net. Is it possible to override the deserialization so the property I want is set after all other properties (that were in the dataset)?
Can someone get me started? Thanks in advance.
There are several options to achieve what you want:
set the property foo in the class'es constructor,
use a CustomCreationConverter<T> to instantiate the class and set foo; there's a good example in Json.NET's documentation here,
use a [OnDeserialized] callback method; again, there's an example here.

Convert data from object of class A to an object from class B

I have three different classes:
Task
Order
Transmission
Each class have properties with different types. Also, there is a possibility to attach data that represented by custom fields (implemented by an array of IField, where IField can be text field or list field). Each custom field have a name that represent the name of the attached data property.
I need to convert between each class to another:
Task -> Order
Order -> Transmission
Transmission -> Task
Transmission -> Order
Order -> Task
Task -> Transmission
for that I created:
Static class of static keys where each key represents the name of
the property.
"DataObject" that holds a dictionary of a property name and an object as its value.
Each class (Task, Order, Transmission) implements IDataShare interface:

For example, task objects with the following properties:
WorkerId:5
CustomerId:7

And with the following custom fields:

the string keys "WorkerId", "CustomerId", "VehicleId", "StartDate" were taken from static class that contains string consts where "Subcontractor" and "deliveryNote" are the names of the custom fields the user added (I don't know which fields the user might add so I just use the field name).
When I fill an object using DataObject I have to verify the name of the property is the same as the name of the key and also verify the value is correct (string cannot inserted into long).
In addition, custom list field (subcontractor) can't have only itemId as a value because when I have to verify that the listId of the custom field in the object is the same with the listId of the customField in the DataObject.
I have many problems about knowing the type of the value. I always have to use "X is Y" if statements of "X as Y" statements. In addition, I have to remember how to store the type of the value when implementing IDataShare interface which makes the work harder.
Can anyone help me think about constraint I can add to the conversion proccess from an object to DataObject? Can anyone help me improve this method of converting objects?

I want to explain a point. My biggest problem is that there are several ways to translate each property/custom field so I need to remember the type of the value in DataObject. For example, in Transmission class I have VehicleId property. I want to convert Task object with custom field with the name "VehicleId" to Transmission. All I want is that Task's custom field VehicleId's value will be converted into the VehicleId property of Transmission. But, because it is custom field - as I wrote before - there is a way I store custom field that based on a list: {listId:5, Value:4}. Now, in the conversion proccess (FromDataObject in Transmission) in case the DataObject has "VehicleId" key, I have to check whether the value is long (vehicle id as property) or IListField (vehicle id as custom list field).
those type checking really makes mess.
Well, if the number of classes you're converting between is really as limited as you've said, may I suggest just writing casting operators for your classes?

It seems like the amount of logic that you're putting into the conversion is enough to warrant something like this.
On the other hand, it seems like there is a base set of fields being used across the different objects and you're just stuffing them into an untyped dictionary. If the fields are common across all types, could you use a conversion to a strongly typed common object?
Which also begs the question: could you use a common base class object?
If you have options of modifying the Task, Order, and Transmission definitions, I'd take a look at them again. This sort of scenario seems like a "code smell".
If I understand this correctly ToDataObjectis basically a serializer and FromDataObject is a deserializer. If the data contained by these object is type compatible, then it seems that the very act of serializing it into untyped data is the source of your problem. Why do this, instead of just keeping the data in its native format?
If you need to use an adapter because there are incompatibilities between the objects that can't be resolved for some reason, I would think that you can make one that at least keep the data in its native structures instead of serializing everything to a string. A dictionary in C# can contain anything, at a minimum you could be using a Dictionary<string,object>.
It's also unclear what all this verification is about - why would data be incompatible, if you are mapping properties of the same data types? E.g. assuming that this is an internal process, under what circumstance could (e.g.) a string from one object be trying to be assigned to a long in another object? Seems that would only be necessary if the data were strongly typed in one object, but not in another.
Have you considered using generics?
If Task, Order and Transmission all inherit from a base class like Property, then you could expose a common method for getting the values you need.

DataForm, DropBox and data annotations (description and such)

I've got a DataForm in which I replace some TextBox fields with DropBoxes to imitate a lookup using the AutoGeneratingField event.
However, when I do that, I loose any data annotations that could otherwise be used (such as a description which I specified in my data model).
Is there a way to get these values from the data model without resorting to auto-generated fields? The DataFormAutoGeneratingFieldEventArgs parameter doesn't seem to contain them.
Set the DataField.PropertyPath property to the name of the model property with metadata.

C# Attributes and their uses

I really don't know much about attributes in general in C#, I've seen them in use in a lot of different ways/places but I don't think I see the importance of some of them. Some definitely have importance because they provide a noticeable function, such as [Serializable]. Yet, others don't seem so important, such as one my coworker uses to mark properties with [DataMember].
I suppose my question is, what are attributes and how are they useful? Is there a way to create my own attributes and how can I tell if fields/methods/classes/whatever have particular attributes or what values are set in those attributes?

Attributes enable you to embed information about a type or method in the metadata which describes that type or method.
You typically want to use attributes to describe facts about the mechanism of the type or method rather than the meaning of the type or method. For example, suppose you have a type Employee. A fact about the meaning of Employee is that it is a kind of Person, that an Employee has a Manager, and so on. A fact about the mechanism of Employee is that it can be the target of data binding, or it can be serialized to disk, or whatever. An employee cannot be serialized to disk, but the class Employee can be. Attributes let you separate information about the technical details from the semantic model.
Is there a way to create my own attributes?
Yes. Create a class which extends Attribute. By convention you want to name it "FooAttribute". If you do so you can use either the [Foo] syntax or the [FooAttribute] syntax at your discretion.
How can I tell if fields/methods/classes/whatever have particular attributes or what values are set in those attributes?
Use the GetCustomAttributes method on the reflection objects.

Attributes are a means by which you can associate metadata with types in .NET. This allows you to check for a type and get information about it that's separate from the "runtime" information of the type.
This can be very useful. You mentioned [Serializable], but other simple examples include many of the System.ComponentModel types, such as Description, which is used by the property grid to "describe" properties when you work with them in the designer. Since the "description" of a property isn't really related to the behavior of the type in a program (at runtime), it doesn't belong in the class. However, it's very handy when you go to edit a control in a visual designer, for example, to see a description (or category, etc) of a property. Attributes are the means by which this is handled.

Attributes are essentially meta data that can be attached to various pieces of your code. This meta data can then be interogate and affect the behaviour of certain opperations.
Attributes can be applied to almost every aspect of your code. For example, attributes can be associated at the Assembly level, like the AssemblyVersion and AssemblyFileVersion attributes, which govern the version numbers associated with the assembly.

Then the Serializable attribute for example can be applied to a type declaration to flag the type as supporting serialization. In fact this attribute has special meaning within the CLR and is actually stored as a special directive directly on the type in the IL, this is optimized to be stored as a bit flag which can be processed much more efficiently, there are a few attributes on this nature, which are known as pseudo custom attributes.
Still other attributes can be applied to methods, properties, fields, enums, return values etc. You can get an idea of the possible targets an attribute can be applied to by looking at this link

Further to this, you can define your own custom attributes which can then be applied to the applicable targets that your attributes are intended for. Then at runtime your code could reflect on the values contained in the custom attributes and take appropriate actions.
For a rather naive example, and this is just for the sake of example :)
You might want to write a persistence engine that will automatically map Classes to tables in your database and map the properties of the Class to table columns. You could start with defining two custom attributes
TableMappingAttribute
ColumnMappingAttribute
Which you can then apply to your classes, as an example we have a Person class

When this compiles, other than the fact that the compiler emits the additional meta data defined by the custom attributes, little else is impacted. However you can now write a PersistanceManager that can dynamically inspect the attributes of an instance of the Person class and insert the data into the People table, mapping the data in the FirstName property to the fname column and the LastName property to the lname column.
As to your question regarding the instances of the attributes, the instance of the attribute is not created for each instance of your Class. All instances of People will share the same instance of the TableMappingAttribute and ColumnMappingAttributes. In fact, the attribute instances are only created when you actually query for the attributes the first time.
C# provides a mechanism for defining declarative tags, called attributes, which you can place on certain entities in your source code to specify additional information. The information that attributes contain can be retrieved at run time through reflection. You can use predefined attributes or you can define your own custom attributes.
