extract the date part from DateTime in C# [duplicate]

I have a datetime value below,
23/07/2014 04:15:00
How can i get date as below string value
23/07/2014
How can i get hour as below string value
04:15 AM/PM (depends hour time)
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
I'd parse the string to DateTime first to avoid string manipulation.
var str = "23/07/2014 04:15:00";
var dt = DateTime.ParseExact(str, "dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm:ss", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);
var date = dt.ToString("dd/MM/yyyy", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);//23/07/2014
var time = dt.ToString("hh:mm tt", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);//04:15 AM
If you have the value as DateTime you can skip ParseExact part.
I'm not sure if you really use a DateTime instead of a string, but you should. If not, you can use DateTime.Parse/DateTime.TryParseExact to get a DateTime from a string.
DateTime has a method ToShortDateString
string dateOnly = dt.ToShortDateString();
// or to force / as separator even if current culture has different separator
dateOnly = dt.ToString("d", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);
// hour+minute and AM/PM designator:
string hour = DateTime.Now.ToString("hh:mm tt", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);
I strongly feel like taking a risk to answer your question but.. anyway.
How can i get date as below string value
DateTime dt = new DateTime(2014, 7, 23, 4, 15, 0);
Console.WriteLine(dt.ToString(#"dd\/MM\/yyyy")); // 23/07/2014
I escaped / character because it has a special meaning in custom date and time format strings. It means as; replace me with the current culture date separator. Take a look "/" Custom Format Specifier for more information.
How can i get hour as below string value
Console.WriteLine(dt.ToString("HH:mm tt", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture));
Output will be;
04:15 AM

Parse string to DateTime in C#

I am trying to convert a date that is returned to me with it in this format:
2022-02-09T14:43:32
I am trying to get it to look like this
2/9/2022 2:43PM
I tried this but it says it is not a valid format.
workRow["ShiftStart"] = DateTime.ParseExact(theTempsDataSet.Tables[0].Rows[i]["shiftStartTime"].ToString(), "dd/mm/yyyy hh:mmtt", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture).ToString();
try this
var dtStr="2022-02-09T14:43:32";
var dt= DateTime.Parse(dtStr);
dtStr = dt.ToString("M/d/yyyy h:mmtt", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);
or who loves in one line
var dt= DateTime.Parse("2022-02-09T14:43:32").ToString("M/d/yyyy h:mmtt", CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture("en-US"));
ParseExact should have date format to parse date from file. So, it should have "yyyy-MM-ddTHH:ss:mm" date format. After parsing it will be in DateTime type. To convert it back to string, you can call .ToString("dd/mm/yyyy hh:mmtt") on that. Where "dd/mm/yyyy hh:mmtt" is your custom date format
You just have to use the right datetime format :
DateTime date1 = new DateTime(2008, 1, 1, 18, 9, 1, 500); Console.WriteLine(date1.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm tt",CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture("en-US")));

How to remove time portion of date in C# in DateTime object only?

Closed 3 years ago.
I am doing an asp.net mvc project and I need to convert the string of "06/22/2019 00:00:00" to a valid DateTime type in format of 2019/06/22 without the part of hour and minute and second
You can use DateTime.ParseExact, here is an example :
http://net-informations.com/q/faq/stringdate.html
Finally, it should look like this :
string s = "06/22/2019 00:00:00";
DateTime myDate = DateTime.ParseExact(s, "MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm:ss",System.Globalization.CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);
Debug.WriteLine(myDate.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy"));
You can do this:
var dateString = "06/22/2019 00:00:00";
var datePart = dateString.Split(' ')[0];
var date = DateTime.Parse(datePart);
Though remember that DateTime will still have a default value for the time (12:00 AM), if you want the Date part only from the object, use date.Date which will return an instance with the default time (mentioned earlier).
DateTime contains default Time even if you access DateTime.Date. You can achieve format of date by converting Date into string.
Something like,
DateTime myDate = DateTime.ParseExact("06/22/2019 00:00:00", "MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm:ss", System.Globalization.CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);
string dateInFormat = $"{myDate.Year}/{myDate.Month}/{myDate.Day}";
POC : .net Fiddle
You convert the string to a DateTime object and then to display just the date portion you can use ToShortDateString like this:
var myDateTime = DateTime.Parse( "06/22/2019 00:00:00") //presumably use a variable here instead.
var date = myDateTime.ToShortDateString();
How you want to display this can be done using the CultureInfo part as shown here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/api/system.datetime.toshortdatestring?view=netframework-4.8

Convert string "Jun 1 2005 1:33PM" into datetime

I need to convert a string with date to valid c# date time object.
input string example = "2015-03-24T12:31:33.8700000"
output c# datetime
I tried doing this
DateTime.ParseExact(x.claimDetails.clmDOA, "yyyy-MM-dd HHmmss", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture)
Buit it gave exception
String was not recognized as a valid DateTime
Please Note: I googled thoroghly . Somehow i couldnt find any string
with "T" included as in datetime string.
Prior to downvoting if one can suggest me exactly where a question is answered with datetime string containg a T in it or of this format.yyyy-MM-dd'T'hh:mm:ss.fffffff
DateTime dt = DateTime.Parse(example);
DateTime dt = DateTime.ParseExact(example, "yyyy-MM-dd'T'hh:mm:ss.fffffff", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);
Should work for you.
From DateTime.ParseExact documentation;
Converts the specified string representation of a date and time to its
DateTime equivalent. The format of the string representation must
match a specified format exactly or an exception is thrown.
In your case, they are not.
You need to use T as a string literal delimiter, specify : as a TimeSeparator and seconds fraction (with fffffff specifier) as well.
var dt = DateTime.ParseExact("2015-03-24T12:31:33.8700000",
"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.fffffff",
CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);
DateTime.ParseExact(example , "yyyy MM dd HH:mm:ss", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);

Converting a String to DateTime

i have string format of date looks like "04/16/2014 19:10", i want to convert it to DateTime.
i tried, below codes, but it didn't work. i got error like "String was not recognized as a valid DateTime."
How to convert to datetime
DateTime dt1 = DateTime.Parse(DateTimeString);
DateTime dt = System.Convert.ToDateTime(DateTimeString);
The problem is Parse, as you are using it, will take into account the current culture of the machine which means (depending on where you are) that date could be interpreted differently.
Whenever you are parsing specific dates you should use ParseExact or TryParseExact, that way you leave no room for ambiguity on how the date should be interpreted (regardless of culture)
DateTime dt;
if (DateTime.TryParseExact("04/16/2014 19:10", "MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm",
CultureInfo.InvariantCulture, DateTimeStyles.None, out dt))
{
// date was parsed correctly, use `dt`
}
You may want to use ParseExact and specify the format yourself:
DateTime d = DateTime.ParseExact("04/16/2014 19:10", "MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);

How to remove time portion of date in C# in DateTime object only?

The line of code DateTime d = DateTime.Today; results in 10/12/2011 12:00:00 AM. How can I get only the date part.I need to ignore the time part when I compare two dates.
DateTime is a DataType which is used to store both Date and Time. But it provides Properties to get the Date Part.
You can get the Date part from Date Property.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.datetime.date.aspx
DateTime date1 = new DateTime(2008, 6, 1, 7, 47, 0);
Console.WriteLine(date1.ToString());
// Get date-only portion of date, without its time.
DateTime dateOnly = date1.Date;
// Display date using short date string.
Console.WriteLine(dateOnly.ToString("d"));
// Display date using 24-hour clock.
Console.WriteLine(dateOnly.ToString("g"));
Console.WriteLine(dateOnly.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm"));
// The example displays the following output to the console:
// 6/1/2008 7:47:00 AM
// 6/1/2008
// 6/1/2008 12:00 AM
// 06/01/2008 00:00
There is no way to "discard" the time component.
DateTime.Today is the same as:
DateTime d = DateTime.Now.Date;
If you only want to display only the date portion, simply do that - use ToString with the format string you need.
For example, using the standard format string "D" (long date format specifier):
d.ToString("D");
When comparing only the date of the datatimes, use the Date property. So this should work fine for you
datetime1.Date == datetime2.Date
DateTime d = DateTime.Today.Date;
Console.WriteLine(d.ToShortDateString()); // outputs just date
if you want to compare dates, ignoring the time part, make an use of DateTime.Year and DateTime.DayOfYear properties.
code snippet
DateTime d1 = DateTime.Today;
DateTime d2 = DateTime.Today.AddDays(3);
if (d1.Year < d2.Year)
Console.WriteLine("d1 < d2");
else
if (d1.DayOfYear < d2.DayOfYear)
Console.WriteLine("d1 < d2");
you can use a formatstring
DateTime time = DateTime.Now;
String format = "MMM ddd d HH:mm yyyy";
Console.WriteLine(time.ToString(format));
