I'm pretty sure I tried to use Code Contracts in C# code by just including a reference to System.Diagnostics.Contracts Namespace http://goo.gl/wZIg54 .
But Code Contracts for .NET page suggests I need to download MSI package. Why is it so? Are Code Contracts built-in into .NET / C# or not?

#vkelman the calls required to specify contracts are part of the basic framework (for example, Contract.Requires). Visual Studio doesn't do anything with these, however, unless you've installed the tools that come in the MSI package.

I m working with a large project whith meets in mvc c# and looking for methods (plugins for visual studio, addons, frameworks) for tracking object in controller, views during the app works. Any methods exist for that ? I do not want use logging via nlog or log4net.
Try Application Insights (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/application-insights/app-insights-overview). It integrated very nice in Visual Studio, has a free plan as well and is created for scenario's like this.
Just to satisfy my curiosity, why do you not want to use a logging framework?

I would like to use a C# .NET diff/comparison library for text files (C++ to be more precise, but it should not matter).
I have found a lot of libraries in the topic but what I need is a something that is part of the .NET library or it comes from Microsoft. The reason of this restriction is that I do not have to go over our company's long open source tool approval process.
Does C# .NET has such feature?
An example for the usage: I have two slightly different .cpp files. I have to create one .cpp file which will have a #ifdef according to the differences of the two files and we can use one file at two places controlled by a predecessor definition.
There is no such built in functionality in any Microsoft .Net library.

Is Unity a part of .net framework or is it external?
Where can I get it and how can I add it to my project?
any good tutorial on how to use Unity?
Thanks
It is external
get it from the unity site: http://unity.codeplex.com/
If you're having trouble setting it up, have you tried using NuGet? It should add it to your project, update your config files, etc for you.
EDIT: I haven't watched it yet, but this screencast: http://www.pnpguidance.net/Screencast/UnityDependencyInjectionIoCScreencast.aspx is recommended in another question: Getting Started with Unity Framework
From the MSDN
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff649614.aspx
It's part of Microsoft's Enterprise Library, which is freely downloadable from Codeplex. Enterprise Library contains various code blocks of varying usefulness including IOC (Unity), logging, data access, caching, etc..

We're looking for a syntax checker for C#, something like Checkstyle for Java. Does anyone have any recommendations for any tools that we can use? Ideally it would have a plugin to Visual Studio 2008.
FxCop or StyleCop.
You mean, something like StyleCop? There is a plugin for ReSharper as far as I know. You can find it at StyleCopForResharper. Works like a champ btw.
The main option for .Net is StyleCop. It can be used from within Visual Studio. See also the StyleCop Blog.
