C# WPF Checkbox with null value? - c#

I am currently making a GUI in WPF, and am working on a page intended to create and configure message rooms but the following code below
else if (Password_Enabled.IsChecked == true && Password.Text.Length == 0)
{
return false;
}
appears with an error of
Password_Enabled.IsChecked 'Password_Enabled.IsChecked' threw an exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException'
My Xaml for the CheckBox appears as follows
<CheckBox x:Name="Password_Enabled" IsChecked="False" Content="Password Enabled" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Checked="Password_Enabled_Checked" Unchecked="Password_Disabled_Checked" Margin="10,5,0,0" Grid.RowSpan="2"/>
I've searched online, but with errors like these it's standardised, I know it means that the checkbox is being treated as null. But while searching through my code haven't found anything stating why, any help on this would be much appreciated, thank you.
Edit

InitializeComponent has to finish before you interact with anything on the UI. If you try to access visual elements in your code before WPF has finished initializing them you'll get the null errors.

Perform web searches through C # Windows forms

I'm trying to realize web searches to get the title of websites on a Google search.
I got a code that works well on other sites, but using Google I got duplicated results.
I have tried and tried, but I can't see where is the mistake.
Code simplified:
public partial class Form1 : Form
{
WebBrowser navegador = new WebBrowser();
private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
navegador.ScriptErrorsSuppressed = true;
navegador.DocumentCompleted += new WebBrowserDocumentCompletedEventHandler(this.datos);
}
private void datos(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
try
{
foreach (HtmlElement etiqueta in navegador.Document.All)
{
if (etiqueta.GetAttribute("classname").Contains("LC20lb DKV0Md"))
{
listBox1.Items.Add(etiqueta.InnerText);
}
}
}
catch (Exception exception) { }
}
private void function(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
/// string query = "https://google.com/search?q=" + query_box.Text;
navegador.Navigate("https://google.com/search?q=water");
/// this.Text = query;
}
}
Result:
I don't know how google works but you can prevent duplicates like this
if(!listBox1.Items.Contains(etiqueta.InnerText))
listBox1.Items.Add(etiqueta.InnerText);
After a couple of days researching and improving the code I decided to change the list for a table.
In addition, now the searches are not duplicated and are positioned in the table as expected

Passing data between form1 and form2 in C# [duplicate]

This question already has answers here:
How do you pass an object from form1 to form2 and back to form1?
(4 answers)
Closed 5 years ago.
I'm supposed to make a math practice program for kids. They should be able to choose 1 operation and the amount of digits (1, 2 or 3 digit) the numbers will have. It then has to out put 10 random questions according to the selection made by the kid, then once they have completed the quiz, it should display their results and which questions they got wrong.
I have two selections being made on form1, operations and # of digits, which are assigned numbers (1. (*) 2. (/) 3. (+) 4. (-)). All i need to do is communicate the operation number and # of digits to form2, where the questions will be generated and displayed.
Here's my code for form1 so far:
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Data;
using System.Drawing;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using System.Threading.Tasks;
using System.Windows.Forms;
namespace FinalProject
{
public partial class Form1 : Form
{
public static int operation = 0;
public static int digits = 0;
public Form1()
{
InitializeComponent();
}
// this is to make sure only one box is checked for both selections. Starts here
private void label1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
}
private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
}
private void MulCB_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if ( MulCB.Checked == true)
{
operation = 1;
DivCB.Checked = false;
AddCB.Checked = false;
SubCB.Checked = false;
}
}
private void DivCB_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (DivCB.Checked == true)
{
operation = 2;
MulCB.Checked = false;
AddCB.Checked = false;
SubCB.Checked = false;
}
}
private void AddCB_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (AddCB.Checked == true)
{
operation = 3;
DivCB.Checked = false;
SubCB.Checked = false;
MulCB.Checked = false;
}
}
private void SubCB_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (SubCB.Checked == true)
{
operation = 4;
DivCB.Checked = false;
AddCB.Checked = false;
MulCB.Checked = false;
}
}
private void oneDCB_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if(oneDCB.Checked == true)
{
digits = 1;
twoDCB.Checked = false;
threeDCB.Checked = false;
}
}
private void twoDCB_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if ( twoDCB.Checked == true)
{
digits = 2;
oneDCB.Checked = false;
threeDCB.Checked = false;
}
}
private void threeDCB_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (threeDCB.Checked == true)
{
digits = 3;
oneDCB.Checked = false;
twoDCB.Checked = false;
}
}
private void button8_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
// operations: 1. (*) 2. (/) 3. (+) 4. (-)
// digits are as number indicates.
// Second window popup.
Form2 settingsForm = new Form2();
settingsForm.Show();
}
}
}
Here's form2, naked pretty much.
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Data;
using System.Drawing;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using System.Threading.Tasks;
using System.Windows.Forms;

}
private void FinishedBtn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)

}
}
This might work.
There are comments in the code.
The workflow is creating a new instance of the class Form2 and setting two public variables. Public means that they can be accessed from outside of the class (see here, if you want). Then the method Show() is called and the Form appears. In the Form2 code, the public variables now have the values previously specified and can be used.
Form1:
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Data;

private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)

Form2 questionForm = new Form2();
//"Write" your settings in the other form's variables
//You will have to write code that finds out which checkbox is which number! For now its fixed.
questionForm.operation = 2;
questionForm.digits = 1;
questionForm.Show();
//Hide Form1
this.Hide();
}
}
}

// https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/zwwsdtbk(v=vs.80).aspx

//here you can use your variables for example (also anywhere within this class!)

Why when typing inside the onchangetext event it's not doing anything?

When the code in the event TextChanged was inside the event TextBoxURL_KeyDown it was working fine also with the logic i wanted. But then i had to press the enter key, so i moved it to the TextChanged event but now when i type a valid in the TextBoxUrl nothing happens.
Code:
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Data;
using System.Drawing;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using System.Text.RegularExpressions;
using System.Threading.Tasks;
using System.Windows.Forms;
namespace DownloadMultipleFiles
{
public partial class AddNewDownloads : Form
{
public AddNewDownloads()
{
InitializeComponent();
foreach (Control ctrl in this.Controls)
{
if ((ctrl as TextBox) != null)
{
(ctrl as TextBox).TextChanged += TextChanged;
}
}
this.TextBoxURL.KeyDown += new KeyEventHandler(TextBoxURL_KeyDown); //add keyDown event
if (TextBoxFilename.Text == "" || TextBoxBrowse.Text == "")
{
TextBoxFilename.Enabled = false;
TextBoxBrowse.Enabled = false;
btnOK.Enabled = false;
}
}
private void AddNewDownloads_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
}
private void btnBrowse_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
}
private void btnCancel_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
this.Close();
}
private void btnOK_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
}
private void TextBoxURL_KeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e)
{
if (e.KeyCode == Keys.Enter) //validate the URL when you press the Enter key
{
}
}
private bool CheckValidUrl() // validate from clipboard
{
string isUrl = Clipboard.GetText();
Uri uriResult;
bool result = Uri.TryCreate(isUrl, UriKind.Absolute, out uriResult)
&& (uriResult.Scheme == Uri.UriSchemeHttp || uriResult.Scheme == Uri.UriSchemeHttps);
return result;
}
private bool WriteValidUrl() // validate manual input
{
string pattern2 = #"^http://www.[a-z].com$";
Match match = Regex.Match(TextBoxURL.Text, pattern2);
if (match.Success)
return true;
else
return false;
}
private new void TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (CheckValidUrl() == true || WriteValidUrl() == true)
{
TextBoxFilename.Enabled = true;
TextBoxBrowse.Enabled = true;
btnOK.Enabled = true;
}
else
{
TextBoxFilename.Enabled = false;
TextBoxBrowse.Enabled = false;
btnOK.Enabled = false;
}
if (TextBoxURL.Text == "")
{
TextBoxFilename.Enabled = false;
TextBoxBrowse.Enabled = false;
btnOK.Enabled = false;
}
}
}
}
TextChanged fires on exit of the textbox. You might be looking for KeyDown or KeyUp, or KeyPress - probably KeyUp as this will allow you to capture what is in the textbox after the new character is added.

I'm setting it to frm.setEmpID so that I could get it from another form.
Thanks for the help man.
Perhaps in your SaveButton_Click event in the CreateAccount form you need to set also the Emp_Id variable of the obj instance defined inside that form (as you have done in the instance of the HRModuleBL defined in the first form).
private void SaveButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
.....
audit.Emp_id = emp_id;
obj.Emp_id = emp_id;
obj.Biometric_code = bytes;
obj.AddAccountSetTempPassword();
.....
}
