I am new to restful services and I have been creating a series of simple console apps to better understand. I have a simlple service that I am trying to send data to but I keep getting a 400 bad request error. I know it has to be something simple I overlooked. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what's wrong with your code, it looks okay at first glance. I wonder if it's the UriTemplate that you're using. If your method is "Test" and the UriTemplate is "Test", you might need to call it with this URL (two "Test" strings):

I believe the method name is part of the URL by default, so the template gets applied after that.
With HTTP errors, I use a tool called Fiddler to troubleshoot. If you can create a request that works with the Request Builder, it's just a matter of figuring out how to produce that request via your code.
The WCF service you are calling is expecting the string you are passing to be serialized in XML!
The following has worked for me in the past:

I have tried using the Service reference (I add service reference to a ?wsdl URL and it generates all the methods I have on web service), however I came across the error (unmarshalling error, unexpected elements) in sending the request. Just to note I have created a soap web service in Java and all of the methods are functioning and returning data, both in iOS application and in Android application, however I am struggling with this in windows phone.

First of all: I know this has been asked over 100 times, but most of these questions were eigher caused by timeout problems, by incorrect Url or by foregetting to close a stream (and belive me, I tried ALL the samples and none of them worked).
So, now to my question: in my Windows Phone app I'm using the HttpWebRequest to POST some data to a php web service. That service should then save the data in some directories, but to simplify it, at the moment, it only echos "hello".
But when I use the following code, I always get a 404 complete with an apache 404 html document. Therefor I think I can exclude the possibility of a timeout. It seems like the request reaches the server, but for some reason, a 404 is returned. But what really makes me be surprised is, if I use a get request, everything works fine. So here is my code:

I would suggest you to use RestSharp for your POST requests in windows phone. I am making an app for a startup and i faced lots of problems while using a similar code as yours. heres an example of a post request using RestSharp. You see, instead of using 3 functions it can be done in a more concise form. Also the response can be handled efficiently. You can get RestSharp from Nuget.

It turned out the problem was on the server-side: it tried it on the server of a friend and it worked fine, there. I'll contact the support of the hoster and provide details as soon as I get a response.

If the service you're trying to reach is a SOAP service, you could simplify this a bit more by having the IDE generate a client class for you. For more information on how to do that, check out this MSDN article. However, if the service does not have a Web Service Definition Language (WSDL) document, this approach will not be able to assist you.
You can use the HTTP Client libraries in Windows Phone 8 and use the client in the same way that Windows 8.
First, get the HTTP Client Libraries from Nuget.
And now, to perform a POST call

This perfectly solves my problem, send an XML within the HTTP Request and in Response receive the XML from the web service.
I recommend using the RestSharp library. You can find a sample request here.

I am trying to replicate a Couch database using .NET classes instead of a curl command line. I have never used WebRequest or Httpwebrequest before, but I am attempting to use them to make a post request with the script below.
Here is the JSON script for couchdb replication(I know this works):

In my case I serialize/deserialize my body from a class - you will need to alter this to use your text file. If you want an easy drop in solution, then change the SerializetoString method to a method that loads your text file to a string.

I've had a similar problem in the past, I had to host a service in IIS that accepted a string containing a request and returned another string with a response to that request. All of the above needed to be done using HTTP POST.
The solution I found was to host a WCF service on IIS and configure it to use HTTP GET/POST protocols.
Also I remember that I needed to use a Stream class to input and output data (a simple string would not work in this case), in other words, I had a HTTP POST method in WCF that was something like:
Stream GetData(Stream data);

You can use the WebClient class, as a client for the servlet. For example
