I have 2 usercontrol, each in different-different updatepanel. Also I have a button outside these 2 updatepanels. On this button click I am trying to call the method in usercontrol.
It doesn't displays the data till button click is not complete, so my both user controls load at the same time. I want to load these user control asynchronously i.e as soon as method in that usercontrol finishes, I want data to be displayed. What should I change to make it work properly.
The method in usercontrol is basically creates dynamic html for the user control.
I am calling the user control method in button click, so it is happening sequentially. UpdatePanel's Unload event occurs at the end, is there a way I can raise this event from button click.
If I understood your question correctly (which isn't that easy), you need some sort of FinishedLoading event in your user controls and have its delegates on your page where you'd set their visibility to true.

I have a Windows Forms application and I want to be able to show a 'post-it note' type thing when the user does a specific action.
For example: The user does something which automatically hides a control.
My application should:
o Pop up a post it note which explains what happened.
o Hide the post it note again when the user clicks anywhere on the form.
I have implemented the post it note as a simple panel with a label in it, which shows and hides when specific things happen.
However, I can't seem to capture the OnClick event of the parent UserControl. The parent control is a nested control, containing a split container, one side of which contains the panel and a tab control, each of which contains a user control with various things in it.
Apart from handling the click event of every single child control, can anyone think of an event that I can capture on the parent control that I can use to hide the post it note when the user clicks anywhere in the parent control?
Thanks,
Rik
That's what the Capture property was designed to do. Set it to true when you pop up the note. Any mouse events will now be directed to your control, even if the mouse moves outside of the window. This is also the way that, for example, the combobox dropdown list works. Keep in mind that it is only good for one click.
If the popup contains any controls itself then mouse capture isn't the solution. Make it an owned form instead and simply call Close() in an event handler for the Deactivate event.
There is bubling of events in windows form, while you click on child event, the event is raised for child, and then for parent. Unless you specify "handleEvnet" property to true. So just leave it false, untill event reaches parent.
I have a Ajax modal popup that displays a set of options for the user. On submit button click event on the ajax modal popup, i need to pass the user selected data back to a text box on the user control (which has the modal pop up) on the calling page.
Structure/flow is as follows. There is a page and two user controls. One is a search control that has another user control that contains the user options. The master page has the search user control. When the user chooses an option in a dropdownlist in the search control, it does a mpe.Show of the user control with options. User makes his selections and hit submit button. In the button click event in the popup, i delegate an event back to the search user control which tries to set the value in one of its text boxes. Everything is going fine until this step and i can see the value but the text box never changes. It seems like the user control is already rendered and the changes are ignored. Any idea how I can get around this?
In short, how to get back the data to a control from an Ajax modal popup.
Use jquery - when the user clicks a button on the modal - use jquery to set the value field to be the data that the user has selected.
e.g.
$('#modalButton').click(function() {
var userData = $('#tbUserData').val();
$('#textBoxElsewhere').val(userData);
});
for anybody's future reference, i did a work around for this. What was happening is that, on the final button click postback, the page/parent user control load events run first and then the button click event.. so the changes that were being made in the button click event did not make it back to the parent user control on the page.. i had to add a middle step to display the user selections for approval and force the user to hit a final confirmation hit. On that post back, the changes were already available for the parent user control, and not have to wait for the button click event to trigger to grab the data. I'm sure there is a better way to do this but this is what I could come up with.
i'm doing a webshop in asp.net (c#).
Is there a way to push the edit button in the gridview through the code of c#?
I have a "new" button, that just adds the row, it would be great if that same row would "open" itself for editing without user having to press "new" then "edit"...
I know there are other ways to do this, i just want to know if this is possible... it would save tons of time!!
thanks in advance for the anwsers!!

Just call the event handler you wrote to handle the edit button push.
Basically speaking, all that happens in code when you click a button is that the button's Clicked event is raised. In a GridView, the event is actually something like GridViewButtonClick. However many handlers you have plugged in will then execute (and you can't, and shouldn't have to, control the order of execution). For a built-in button, because you cannot raise the event from outside that button, you can simulate the button click by just calling the handlers you have attached to the event. If this were your own custom control, you could define a method you could call from outside that would cause the control to raise a certain event.
I would like an UpdatPanel to update it's content once a button is clicked - this button is contained within a UserControl placed on the webpage.
However, I cannot just simply reference it using the AsyncPostBackTrigger's ControlID property, because the button is not situated directly on the webpage.
Is there any way to reference it to the AsyncPostBackTrigger?
Use RegisterAsyncPostbackControl, e.g. if you have a user control UserControl1 containing Button1 and your script manager is called ScriptManager1:
ScriptManager1.RegisterAsyncPostbackControl(UserControl1.FindControl("Button1"));
Edit:
This will refresh all update panels, except panels that have their property set to conditional. For these panels you need to call UpdatePanel.Update(); in the code for the button.
Does the user control expose the button as a child control? If not can it? If not then you can use FindControl on the user control to find the inner button.
I want to make use of "complex" usercontrols with more than one control element within. It's the same control I will reuse in the list, and I have a PlaceHolder control for it already.
I can add the control with LoadControl(path to .ascx) - no problem.
I can through my custom properties get/set access the embedded Labels, too, so I can initialize each control perfectly.
But when adding LinkButtons, I get into trouble/problems.
When I click the button, I do get a "submit" of the page rendering the controls; but the control's own button event does not seem to fire (or at least PageLoad on the parent page seems to fire first?) - I can't figure out where my event goes or where to look for a name/ID or parameter for this button.
How come or what am I doing wrong here?
I've made a "fake button" now by using a label more with a "hardcoded A HREF" with an ID in the URL, but I would like to learn what event I need to catch and where or how to init the button, because I want to be able to use "default ASP.NET" controls for these usercontrols (hopefully without too much patchwork-coding)...
The only reason that events get "lost" is because your controls are not being recreated in such a manner that ASP.Net can associate the event with the control after the postback. It does so through the use of the ID property.
In other words, you're doing one of three things wrong:
1) You're assigning the ID's of your linkbuttons differently during the creating phase in Init after the postback
2) You're creating your linkbuttons dynamically using code, but you're doing it after the Init phase of the page lifecycle, so that your controls do not participate in ViewState.
3) You're re-binding the datasource of the parent control containing the linkbuttons on every postback. Use if (!IsPostBack) to prevent rebinding it every time.
Without seeing your code I can't give anything more specific than that unfortunately.
