VS 2010 Setup Project requirements - c#

I need to check these things before i procedure with an installation:
Does target machine(tm) has installed .NET 3.5?
Does tm has installed IIS 6 (win xp) or IIS7 (win 7)?
To check which OP is installed the tm... If it is XP, i need to check does it have service pack 3 and is in both cases (xp or win7), is it 32bit or 64bit op?
Thanks in advance.

Use ClickOnce to Deploy your application
Goto Project Properties
Click on the Publish Tab
Add the PreRequisites like .Net 3.5,Sql Server etc
Publish Now
Else if you are using Setup Deployment Project, you need to write some script to know all these information.
If you are using ClickOnce you can develop small class to know the Service Pack etc

C# Windows forms app created using Visual Studio 2012 not working on windows xp

I have created a windows forms application using C#.net 4.0 on Visual studio 2012.
App works great on windows 8 and windows 7 but when I try to run the same app on Windows XP I get following error message.
Following are the prerequisites for my app:
1. .net Framework 4.0
2. Windows Installer 4.5
3. ReportViewer 2010
4. MYSQL DB 5.6
5. Visual Basic PowerPack 10
I have installed all these pre-requistes on Windows XP. My 1 click setup installs the application correctly but on application Start up I am receiving error.
I also tried upgrading visual studio 2012 and then rebuilding and publishing the app but still the same error persists.
Following is the screen shot from the Application Event logger
Screenshot from Project's configuration manager
Screenshot from Project Properties
Can anyone suggest me what could be the issue.
If your program icon (or possibly any icons used by your program) has any images that are larger than 64x64 pixels, you can get this error on XP (in System.Drawing).
Check all your icon files and ensure that none contain images larger than 64x64
You Need Service pack 3 for XP and check the EXE build whether it might build for X64 and also check your XP machine is having .Netframework 4.0 change that into AnyCpu and once again build
the EXE and check with XP. and change your framework as .NetFramework 4.0
Are you targeting Mixed Platforms/Any CPU/x86? Can you try different build configurations?
Are you referencing any third party DLL's?
Can you catch and log details of the exception, or does the program fail to execute entirely?
I've had strange issues before when compiling for Mixed/Any CPU, and x86 machines throw a wobbler if the program isn't specifically targetted to x86.

Lightswitch 2012 and Windows XP

i finally finished a proyect i was requested in my university with Lightswitch. Im ready to deploy (publish) next week, and i was JUST told that the people that will recieve the software, are using XP machines. I've read a lot of questions and lots of fixes, to get Lightswitch working on Windows XP, like:
Changing the DumpBin with "editbin vslshost.exe /SUBSYSTEM:WINDOWS,5.01 /OSVERSION:5.1"
deploy it as a desktop application with the services deployed to IIS (i dont think this will work because those are really old pc's)
install all the prerequisites manually and launch the ClickOnce application directly from deployment manifest file (.application)
create a sample ClickOnce application using Visual Studio 2010 OR Visual Studio 2008 with the same name as mentioned in Visual Studio 2012 and publish it. From the published location take the setup.exe bootstrapper and replace the existing setup.exe bootstrapper created using Visual Studio 2012
With all of this workarounds available, i NEED to ask, will this ultimately work? Can someone REALLY tell me that using one-or-all of this workarounds i WILL be able to deploy the application!?
Someone?
The 2-Tier Deployment issue on XP was also addressed in VS 2012 Update 2 IF you upgrade to a "V3" LightSwitch project by right-clicking on the root project in Solution Explorer and selecting "Upgrade Project". This updates the project to the "V3" project system, runtime and will use a much newer publish wizard. The version of VSLSHOST.exe that ships with VS 2012 Update 2 is compatible with XP.

I have a successfully deployed application using the 3-tiers running as an out-of-browser (desktop app) on XP. Initially I was going to do the 2-tier deployment, but I was unable to get a workaround to work.
So I have one server, which runs IIS as well as my SQL server (OS is Windows Server 2003, but doesn't have to be.)
The client machines range from Windows XP to Windows 7, and I haven't had any special problems with windows XP.
So I can definitely say XP will work as a client. I was unable to get it to run the middle tier (hence IIS on the server) but I didn't try every last idea I found, so I won't say it's impossible.
The two links I found most helpful in the process were

Hope that helps.

Running Visual c# windows application over LAN

This is my first windows application. I have published my project and here are few questions.
Now I have two files - a Setup.exe file and a ClickOnce Application Deployment Manifest file. However both install my application in the machine. What is the right file I should be relying on while installing at the client's place? What is the difference between these two?
Should my application be installed at each client machine? Or would it work if I install my application in the server and try to access the shortcut from a client machine (through LAN)? Would it work? If it is running over LAN, should the client machine have .NET framework installed?
Any input is highly appreciated.
See your question contains some answers.
Ans 1. Setup.exe and ClickOnce Application Deployment Manifest file both will install your application but when u run setup.exe it will install all requirements that your app require.
Lets say your app uses .Net Framework 4.0 and Crystal Reports. Then in the setup project(i hope u r using Setup and deployment project of Visual Studio) rightclick on project and click on properties
Then click on prerequisites... It will show u list of prerequisites available. Check on .Net Framework 4.0 and Crystal Reports and compile your project.
Now when u run setup.exe it will first search for .Net 4.0 Framework and crystal report. If not found it will install them and then proceed for your software installation
OR
if already installed then will directly jump for your software installation.
This will not happen if you directly install your software from ClickOnce Application Deployment Manifest file.
Ans 2. U have to install your software on each client for if there is not framework. it will not run your app.
If you are deploying using ClickOnce you will be installing it on each client machine (this is fine) and the relevant .NET framework(s) installed on each client - these can be installed as a pre-requisite of the application install by configuring the ClickOnce settings.
For ClickOnce the main setup file is setup.exe but it relies on the other files in the deploy package, so asking which specific file is most important isn't really relevant.
If there is a reason you don't want to install the application on each client then you may want to look into developing an IIS (web) application or using a product like Citrix to enable access to the application from the server.
i have a same type of windows application.
currently this application is in use.
if you don't want to install with client PC now you do not have to create the windows application you have to create web application because in windows application you have to install your setup.exe in each client PC.You can not access windows application without install in client PC.

Deploying from OSX to Windows with Monodevelop

i just started developing mvc apps with monodevelop, and when i try to deploy to my hosting server, which is Windows 2008 R2 with IIS 7, i can not get it to work, because some of the referenced libraries (Mono.Data.Sqlite, etc) are not published.
Does anyone had the same problem? How can i publish the mono libraries with the project?
No, you don't have to install mono . Just be sure that the libraries are included or project deploy (or copy them to project) or copy them to server's GAC.
Your server will need to have mono installed too.

How to make my project runnable on any system?

I have developed a solution in Visual Studio 2008 C# WPF!
I'm using a service-base SQL database (I've created and managed using Microsoft Visual Studio Sever Explorer), now I'm going to publish it but the problem is that when I install .NET Framework 4.0 and SQLEXPRESS 2005 on other systems, my application doesn't launch! :-(
What componenets should I install on the systems to make it runnable?
If you develop with Visual Studio 2008 you will probably need to install .NET Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1.
If that is not enough you need to post the error you get. Probably in the eventviewer you will see more info.
You can try to create a setup using Clickonce. To do this you need to go to the property pages of the WPF project an go to the tab Publish.
There you can choose to publish it to the network or to a local directory which can be put on a CD or USB device. The most important thing for you to check is the button "Prerequisites".
I hope this helps!
EDIT to help with the comments:
It is perfectly possible to put the prerequisites in the same folder as the install or even better in a fixed network location as you can see in this screenshot below
