I am new to Software Development, could you please give me some input into which platform is mostly used by other Software Developers.
I am looking to develop software which has DB Connectivity with an attractive customisable UI.
Please recommend the what is currently used in the IT industry by other Successful Software Developers.

If you are really new to learning try to read few books on C#, WPF, MFC and play with it. Choose the one which is more fun to work with and that will drive you to learn a lot. If you are into Industry then mostly your project needs drive you towards a particular choice.
But as i mentioned if you want to be successful learn one which is fun to you.

There is no simply best development platform. If so every developer should be developing with that instead of using many different tools and platforms. Every platform has its pros and cons. Personally I would recommend you c#. Its easy to start with. Its development environment(visual studio) is very good for interface design(especially for windows forms development) and its very good to start learning object oriented approach, which is very important in software development. If you can clarify you needs more maybe I can recommend something else.
There are many web development tools if you want to develop a web application. Dreamviewer is more simpler than visual studio to start designing web applications.

I joined as a Fresher(trainee) in Software Company for Windows Store development. I don't know much about C#. My company is newly started Windows Store development. they don't have Dot net development before., that's why my company got an Senior dot net employee to complete the project,When ever he complete the project he left away from the company.
My problem is I have to maintain the project after him. My question how to manage a C# project. How to maintain project if there is any issues. I just want to learn the project flow & analyze my project to debug the project errors in future. But i am struggling how to start to analyze the project
Don't neglect or close this question. I am not asking about my personal issue.
Please answer me how can i start to learn & build my project regarding flow.
I can accept any suggestions & Any help regarding this is appreciated.
If you want to learn windows store apps then This and This links will help you in beginner level
Its important to learn XAML or any tool which creates XAML for you like expression blend.Since maintenance changes will be more on UI side.

Can I transform our existing project to MVVM? [closed]

I have a large existing project in Silverlight which has many user controls with code behind files for complicated business logic. I don't know if I can still migrate my code to the MVVM pattern (I'm pretty new to this pattern). What I mean is that if it is easy to migrate the existing code or I must rewrite everything to fulfill this MVVM requirement?
Also, it seems the business application template is a type of MVVM. Is this the most popular template I should use? Is there any online tutorial to learn this template?
Many thanks,
Wei
I would rarely recommend migrating existing code to fit a new design pattern. This is really only cost effective if the project is fairly small and you're migrating in preparation for making a very large number of changes (which will then benefit from the 'improved' pattern.) Note, also, that the productivity benefits of a pattern like MVVM are somewhat delayed (there is a lot of time spent learning the pattern, so you need to be able to tolerate increased costs and delays in the short term.) If I were in your shoes, I'd practice MVVM on new projects or on reasonably well-isolated add-on features for your application. Either that or work on some personal side projects; a Frankenstein software re-architecture project is a maintenance engineer's worst nightmare.

Writing an enemy class in c#: Where does one begin? [closed]

I'm new here and have a problem. I am having to pick up C#, but I have no experience in it. I'll mainly end up (probably) doing tooling type stuff, but I haven't programmed in awhile and I don't know a huge bunch about it.
I have to write a class that depicts an enemy spaceship, but I am not quite sure how! I seem to have forgotten everything I learned in Java and VB about writing classes. Where might I find good resources for re-learning to write classes, learning to write a class in C#, and learning to write classes for video games?
Specifically, I have to show how it interacts with other enemies, weapons, how big it is, how it looks, etc.
I'm not asking for code, just for resources on learning.
Maybe you should ask on the gamedev stackexchange platform in order to get more pertinent responses : Gamedev Stackexchange
Also, MSDN is a good solution : Learn Visual C# on MSDN. They describes the basics a lot, concepts, classes, structs, interfaces, with a lot of tutorials and resources (like Creating a Maze for example).
Not a direct answer but:
http://www.3dbuzz.com
They have incredible tutorials on c# and C and for the most part - programming logic is programming logic, once you have a way of thinking its a lot easier irrelevant of what the language is. They also have XNA stuff to help you with that.
You should stick to the MSDN Documentation. It's a good source of information for everything you need to know about C#.
Once you get a good hold on C# you should look into XNA Platform.
It's a free Game Development Engine by microsoft for C#.
You can make games for Windows, Xbox360 and Windows Phone.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23714
This is the best tutorial I know to learn how to use XNA.
Well if you're starting from the ground up I would suggest download Microsoft's Visual Web Developer. It's a free IDE that will be very helpful for you when programming.
http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products/2010-editions/visual-web-developer-express
Once you have that installed, you can follow csharp.net's introductory tutorials:

Writing digital signage player in webgl? [closed]

we are in the process of determining what would be the best technology to write our signage player . Although we are a C# house with some experience in Java, all the talk has been about Java and Mono. Also the platform we are going to build on would be a linux box.
The player has to be very intelligent and support scheduling, content change triggers by external applications (by web services), time synchronization of content, content show in different portions of the screen, video/live streamed feed etc.
We will also need to create a designer to allow the design team to create webgl content.
There is some OpenGl experience in the company so we could leverage this.
Would this be a good choice?
JD
That would be an excellent choice IF and only IF you have a good grasp on Javascript or your timeline isn't too tight in case you don't dominate Javascript. If going on a linux box, chances are you're better off with a custom build of Firefox or Chromium running your app alone without the browser parts (menus, tabs, etc).
My team here is working with HTML5+Javascript+Canvas/WebGL on the client side almost exclusively now because it is very fast to develop and needs almost no setup.

So i am using visual studio 2008, asp.net 3.5, with the basic toolkit provided.
Now i have made the gui which a lot of functionality but the design is very basic.
and looks too old.
I need to give it a new look, a new feeling new designs....
like the gridview, the buttons the textboxes, the menus look basic...
this is not working for me.
Please let me how should i go about doing this.??
1) i have herd about tool kits but dont kno which ones are good..(dont want the really expensive ones) but if it is really good my company is ready to spend.
2) will the new VS 2010 or asp.net 4.0 make a difference.
3) The ajax toolkit or silverlight toolkit is any good?
4) i also need to show Charts and graphs now, currently using MS charts.. but now i need
which is good.
Your best bet is to ask very specific questions at a more appropriate forum.
For ideas on designs, look for examples online and do something similar to what you like.
http://www.thecssawards.com/
http://www.csselite.com/
For questions on how to implement a specific design in html/asp.net/whatever, post a very specific question here.
For UI guidance on how to make something specific look better, post a question on http://ui.stackexchange.com. Include a SMALL screen shot of the applicable controls (not the whole page, just the part you're asking about, or at least highlight the part you're asking about).
.NET 3.5 vs .NET 4 will have no real effect on the design of your site. Whether your choose HTML or Silverlight will have a huge effect, but neither is generally better for all sites and switching between them basically means rewriting everything, so you wouldn't do it just for design reasons.
I assume you are referring to UI control libraries.
Some of the commercial libraries that I know off and widely used include:
Telerik RAD Controls
Infragistics
DevExpress
They all have a good range of controls from Menu to Charting.
