I come from a Java background and am getting more into .NET, what are some good libraries to use in my DAO layers? I'm used to using MyBatis (this appears to exist but not in a real full release). I've used Hibernate, which apparently exists in .NET but I'd rather avoid a full POJO style object mapper. I'd really like a library that is query based like MyBatis. Does anyone have some suggestions?
I really like the latest entity framework by microsoft: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/data/ef.aspx. They've made great progress with it.
Use the one that StackOverflow is using. Dapper.NET
NHibernate in .Net can be very nice with Linq to NHibernate. While the setup can be tedious, I still think I like NHibernate more than Hibernate. (Be it because of C# vs Java is a debate)

I'm new to MVC and am still adjusting to the drastic switch from WebForms. I was a bit happy when I found that the idea of ready-made components is not totally gone when I found http://nuget.org/packages/TinyMCE.JQuery, a nuget package that installs an HTML editor component such that it just takes the addition of a UIHint attribute to use it.
My question is where do I go to find more things like this which will help me get closer to the level of efficiency I got used to with WebForms/AjaxToolkit (not withstanding my obvious need to keep learning MVC best practices)?
The nice thing about MVC is you don't need server controls, you now have the freedom to use anything HTML/CSS/JS

I've been asked to write an internal application for our business that uses mapping functionality to place push-pins of business related data.
As this is not a public facing application and to be used by a single person within our firewall I can not use google maps as we do not have the funds for the google license.
I am investigating the use of OpenStreetMap and can either embed a component into an already existing WPF application or embed into an existing WPF application, a NetBeans platform based application or into a new web application.
Could someone please suggest a library for use in either of these environments?
I recently updated JMapViewer from r26523 to r26975 without incident. Subjectively, it seems faster.
I've recently started to build a WPF prototype using SharpMap - although it's currently migrating to V2 and some of the dataproviders are missing - so I've been using V1 which has support for BruTile. You also might find BruTile useful.

I've been looking for a nice convention based MVVM framework, I've looked at NakedMVVM, which seems to be along the lines of what I'm after.
But can there really be only one? What other options are available?
We just started using Caliburn.Micro and I've found it very impressive. It is incredibly lightweight (under 3,000 lines of code in all), but includes some features that really simplify common MVVM tasks.

Please, anybody, can you explain what the purpose of C# language and .NET platform?
What do you think about prospects of this language?

C# is a great high level language and .NET framework is a massive expandable library. And the whole purpose is to make programmers' lives easier. High level languages let programmers to put more time on solving the main problem rather than dealing with things like portability, serialization, etc.
the purpose of C# is like the purpose of java, except it is only meant for microsoft operating systems (there is a port to linux: mono, but I think you don't have the entire library).
It can be used for web development, desktop development and windows mobile development

I would like to see how other software is designed using the MVC technology. I am working on a small MVC project and would like ideas on how to design it. The only way to look at high quality code is to inspect other open source projects using the microsofts mvc technology.
Oxite is an open source, web standards compliant, blog engine built on ASP.NET MVC.

The Stack Exchange Data Explorer has just gone open source.
I've had a look through it and it's a well designed, well written project with plenty of useful little tips and tricks. Their use of the Current static object is interesting and something I'm going to look at doing in the future.
