[Final EDIT] Here is a link to the code I wrote in case it helps anyone.
I think I have a solution. Umbraco uses asp.net files for their popups
which is something I haven't used yet but I think I can get the hang
of it. I don't know how to access the aspx from within my class,
should I make a code behind partial class?
Thanks for any help.
I am developing a multi-lingual site, using Umbraco, where content nodes are automatically copied to each language as they are created. Is there any way to implement a custom popup to confirm that it should be copied to all instead?
This wouldn't actually be on the site, rather in the back office.
Or is it possible to open a browser popup with c# as all I really need is a bool value from a message box?
[EDIT: added possible solution]
I sorted this by adapting Umbraco's own create function. I made a new .aspx file and added the functionality that I needed to the code behind.
I was able to add a context menu item that allowed me to call my new page and from there called a method to duplicate the content.
From the method, I pass the new node and get the parent id. Then I compare all the node names for those that match and use the umbraco document.copy() method to recreate the content under each language at the correct position.
If I can make the code more generic then I will upload it as a package to Umbraco.

I'm having a web application project which is running .NET 4.0. I've plenty of .aspx page and now I would like to add in a block of script code to all the .aspx page header, for example Google Analytics.
I know there is a solution to do is add in every single page, but I would like to know is there any other's way to do this instead modify every single .aspx page?
*My header is not runat server
I got an idea to do but not sure it's work or not.
Get the page class in Global.asax
Get the output stream from the page class.
Insert the Google Analytics code in the HTML header.
I couldn't get the Page.Response in the Global.asax as I tried in the Application_PostRequestHandlerExecute & also Application_EndRequest. Does anyone know is this work and how it's work?
Thanks.
Use master pages. This is the ASP.NET way of putting the same content on multiple pages without repeating yourself.
All of our aspx pages code-behind classes inherit from the same base class, which allows us to inject standard client side elements (controls, script, etc) into every page using a single point of control.
Our design was implemented before the advent of master pages, but while it could possibly be converted to a master-page design, we have found this implementation to be extremely flexible and responsive to changing needs.
For example, we have two completely separate application designs (different skin, some different behavior) that is based off of the same code base and page sets. We were able to dynamically swap out banners and other UI and script elements by simple modifications to the base class in order to support this without having to duplicate every page.
Unfortunately, if you want the script to be in the head element, you will need to ensure that they are all marked as runat=server.
Our base class itself inherits from Page, so it can intercept all of the page's events and act on them either instead of or in addition to the inheriting classes (we actually have internal overrideable methods that inheritors should use instead of the page events in order to ensure order of execution).
This is our (VB) code for adding script to the header (in the Page's LoadComplete method):
' sbscript is a stringbuilder that contains all of the javascript we want to place in the header
Me.Page.Header.Controls.Add(New LiteralControl(sbScript.ToString))
If it is not possible to change the heads to runat server, you could look into ClientScriptManager method RegisterClientScriptBlock which places the script at the top of the page.
You can create a basic page with the header with the custom code such as Google analytics and have the other pages inherit from that. It will facilitate two things:
1) In case you ever want to change the custom code you will only have to do it in one place
2) No repetitive code hence more maintainable
I am trying to do the same thing on a legacy app that we're trying to decommission. I need to display a popup on all the old pages to nag users to update their bookmarks to use the new sites, without forcing them to stop using the legacy site (yet). It is not worth the time to convert the site to run on a master page when I can just plop in a popup script, since this whole thing is getting retired soon. The main new site uses a master page, which obviously simplifies things there.
I have this line in a file that has some various constants in it.
Public Shared ReadOnly RetirementNagScript As String = "<Script Language='javascript'> alert('[app name] is being retired and will be shut down [in the near future]. Please update your bookmarks and references to the following URL: [some URL]'); </script>"
Then I am inserting it in Global.asax, in Application_PostAcquireRequestState:
Response.Write(Globals.RetirementNagScript)
Hopefully this is useful to you; I still need to be able to present a clickable URL to the user that way, on each page of the legacy site, and JS alert doesn't do that for me.
I'm basically trying to create a link from a worksite folder in FileSite to take the user to our (Web based) CRM system or Case management system as shown below.
When the user right clicks the matter the option button (Goto CRM) will be available for then to click, I have created this in the following regkey
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Interwoven\Worksite\8.0\FileSite\Commands\Workspace] “Commands”.
Once the button Goto CRM is clicked, the matter numbers (all fields if possible) are used to compile the URL for the CRM webpage. e.g. http://Casemangesyatem/test9999.1.apx
I don’t know how this is achieved or what the file compiled is or how to create it, any examples notes would be greatly appreciated.
So how or what is used to compile the file that is location/called by the regkey
What do I use to create this file and how do I do it
Thanks you.
This is the only site that I have found with any reference to work-site sdk. I'm new to work-site sdk and would appreciate any kind of help with example code.
To run some custom code when a user selects your new right click option, you'll need to create a new DLL in Visual Studio to do the actions you need (e.g. redirecting the user to a custom website).
The worksite SDK contains some sample ICommands in VB.NET and C# to get you started. The main requirement for your custom code is that it implement the IManExtLib.ICommand interface like below:
Namespace MyCustomApp
Public Class IManageToInteraction
Implements IMANEXTLib.ICommand
...
In the registry key below the Commands value should contain the comma separated list of the ClassIDs of the ICommands you want to appear in the right click menus at that level.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Interwoven\Worksite\8.0\FileSite\Commands\Workspace]
For example the following value includes some of the standard entries and our custom class from above and would appear in the right click menu of a workspace within Filesite.
IManExt2.AddShortcutsCmd,IManExt.SearchCmd,MyCustomApp.IManageToInteraction
I'm trying to create a very basic web site creator in C#. I already created the templates but have no idea how to get them in the program so the user can pick one and customize it. Is there a certain library I should look into? I've bee told this can be easily created in php but I'd rather not go down that route.
If using .NET you can use WebControl controls to display a preview of your templates and make the user decide which one he wants.
Or a list of templates and single WebControl that parse and display the HTML of the current selected list item (template) and then make the user select.
To edit, just a bunch of controls (one for each template placeholder) that updates the view of the WebControl.
In the top link you found how to do it.
P.S. Templates can be stored on XML, Plain Text, DB or any other mean.
Either store the templates as files on the web-side and use them as templates, or store them in a DB. Unless your app is not web-based, in which case the same advice pretty much applies.
Background info: 2 semesters of C#(WinForms), plenty of HTML/CSS skill, brand new to asp.net.
I'm building a site for a friend who's a photographer. It's just a gallery site, but he'd like to be able to update the galleries himself and he's not tech savvy in the least. So I'm using the following approach to the problem:
Using ASP.NET 4 WebForms:
I'm using System.IO to get the names of the folders which represent the "Galleries" and populating a TreeView control for navigation.
When a "Gallery" is selected, I have code that builds a (HTML)list of the image files and populates an UpdatePanel with this list.
As this is all based on the folders/files, I'm building him an secure admin page to upload files to new or existing galleries(folders). He'll also be able to edit(move/delete) the existing files from there.
I got it all to work, which was a nice little victory, but I'm realizing this approach is not optimal, as none of the unique galleries are findable via search engine or even URL; the SEO value is nill; the browser back/forward buttons are useless...
Can you guys/gals recommend a better way to go about this?
Is there a way to modify what I've already done to optimize the project?
I'll gladly start over to do this right.
Thanks
Couple of suggestions, if you are doing this for fun - and want to learn something, consider using ASP.Net MVC instead. Both will work, but doing it with MVC will give you more up-to-date and marketable skills.
Second, unless you really want to write the whole thing from scratch, consider using a package to do most of what you want and then customize it.
Something like this would work quite well: http://www.galleryserverpro.com/ and is open source, free/cheap and well supported.
SInce you are new to asp.net, you can learn a lot by picking thru the open source code and seeing how other people with more experience have already solved the very same issues.
When a "Gallery" is selected, I have
code that builds a (HTML)list of the
image files and populates an
UpdatePanel with this list.
Well, most of your problem is sitting inside this sentence. get rid of the UpdatePanel. When you are making ajax request, you are not able to allow browser history. so SEO, back/forward nav. buttons are always issue with updatepanel.

how we can create the dynamic page ex. help.aspx and write the code in sitefinity. Because i facing a problem I create a page but i unable to know in which directory the page is lived. If any one help me Suggest.
http://abc.com/sitefinity/admin/pages.aspx
I'm not exactly sure I understand your question correctly. When you create a page in Sitefinity, it doesn't create an ASPX file. The data for the page is kept in the database and served from there. There are no physical files involved.
If you want to write some code that executes when a page loads, you have two options:
Put the code into a control and drop the control on a page created from within Sitefinity
Create a regular ASPX page from Visual Studio and include it as an external page in Sitefinity.
I would recommend the first option, as this would provide you with all the Sitefinity goodness that all pages use - templates, editing through the browser, etc.
If you wanted something else and I misunderstood, please be more specific.
