I have a combox that I have data binded to a viewmodel.
The dropdown cells are displayed properly but the comboxbox textblock doesn't show the same.
This is my combobox xaml
<ComboBox x:Name="UserComboBox" ItemsSource="{Binding userInfoViewModel.Users}"
SelectedItem="{Binding userInfoViewModel.SelectedUser, Mode=TwoWay}"
ItemTemplate="{StaticResource UserTemplate}"
ItemContainerStyle="{DynamicResource CustomUserComboBoxStyle}"
HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="39.025,217.76,0,186.025" Width="204.975" IsEditable="True" Background="#FFF3F3F3"
BorderBrush="{DynamicResource CustomBorder}"
Height="27.24" >
</ComboBox>
This is my UserTemplate
<DataTemplate x:Key="UserTemplate">
<StackPanel FlowDirection="LeftToRight" Orientation="Horizontal">
<TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=InternalNumber}"></TextBlock>
<TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=UserName}" ></TextBlock>
</StackPanel>
</DataTemplate>
and my CustomUserComboBoxStyle
<Style x:Key="CustomUserComboBoxStyle" TargetType="{x:Type ComboBoxItem}">
<Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="{Binding HorizontalContentAlignment, RelativeSource={RelativeSource AncestorType={x:Type ItemsControl}}}"/>
<Setter Property="VerticalContentAlignment" Value="{Binding VerticalContentAlignment, RelativeSource={RelativeSource AncestorType={x:Type ItemsControl}}}"/>
<Setter Property="Padding" Value="3,0,3,0"/>
<Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent"/>
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type ComboBoxItem}">
<Border x:Name="Bd" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}"
Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" Padding="{TemplateBinding Padding}" SnapsToDevicePixels="true">
<ContentPresenter HorizontalAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalContentAlignment}"
SnapsToDevicePixels="{TemplateBinding SnapsToDevicePixels}"
VerticalAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalContentAlignment}"/>
</Border>
<ControlTemplate.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsHighlighted" Value="true">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="#646363" />
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="#FFFFFFFF"/>
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="#646363"/>
</Trigger>
<Trigger Property="IsHighlighted" Value="false">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="#FFF3F3F3" />
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="#FFF3F3F3"/>
</Trigger>
<Trigger Property="IsEnabled" Value="false">
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.GrayTextBrushKey}}"/>
</Trigger>
</ControlTemplate.Triggers>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
</Style>
Why does the combobox show Digicom.Eventserver.Client.user instead of the name and number?
Your simplest solution would be to override the ToString() method in your user data class:
public override string ToString()
{
return string.Concat(InternalNumber, UserName);
}
You could set the ComboBox.DisplayMemberPath property.
That property accepts the name of only one property of the DataContext object. If you want to use two properties (InternalNumber and Username) you should use a ValueConverter or (better way IMHO) a ViewModel class

I am trying to bind the ItemsSource and SelectedItem properties of a ComboBox and the items are not displaying properly. The ComboBox is populated with the values of an Enum based on a solution suggested in this post. I have defined the ComboBox on the View as follows:
<ComboBox
Grid.Column="1"
Grid.Row="2"
ItemContainerStyle="{DynamicResource ComboBoxItemStyle}"
Style="{DynamicResource MaterialComboBox}"
SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedSetting}" ItemsSource="{Binding SettingOptions}" />
The properties on ViewModel I bind to are defined as follows:
private DataUpdateRate _selectedSetting;
public DataUpdateRate SelectedSetting
{
get { return _selectedSetting; }
set
{
_selectedSetting = value;
OnPropertyChanged("SelectedMyEnumType");
}
}
public IEnumerable<DataUpdateRate> SettingOptions
{
get
{
return Enum.GetValues(typeof(DataUpdateRate))
.Cast<DataUpdateRate>();
}
}
To the same ComboBox, I have also applied a custom style and template. My guess is that the issue lies in the DataTemplate I defined for the ContentPresenter

When I run the application the ComboBox expands according to the number of elements in the Enum, suggesting that it does generate the ComboBoxItems correctly, but doesn't display the values of the items. I have also tried another solution from the post I referenced earlier with the same result.
I assume that I have done something wrong with the ComboBox template, but I can't put my finger on it. If anyone has a solution I would greatly appreciate it.
I have some textbox whith style from a template like this
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type TextBox}">
<Border Background="White" CornerRadius="8" x:Name="container">
<Grid>
<TextBox Background="White"
FontFamily="Poppins" FontSize="11"
VerticalAlignment="Center"
Padding="5"
Name="SearchBox"
Foreground="Black"
Margin="2"
BorderThickness="0"
Text="{TemplateBinding Text}"
/>
<TextBlock Text="{TemplateBinding Tag}" Name="Placeholder"
FontSize="11" FontFamily="Poppins"
Foreground="Gray"
VerticalAlignment="Center"
IsHitTestVisible="False"
Grid.Column="1" Padding="5" Margin="6,0,0,0">
<TextBlock.Style>
<Style TargetType="{x:Type TextBlock}">
<Style.Triggers>
<DataTrigger Binding="{Binding Text, ElementName=SearchBox}" Value="">
<Setter Property="Visibility" Value="Visible"></Setter>
</DataTrigger>
</Style.Triggers>
<Setter Property="Visibility" Value="Hidden"></Setter>
</Style>
</TextBlock.Style>
</TextBlock>

</Border>
<ControlTemplate.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsEnabled" Value="False">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="#E6E6E6" TargetName="container"/>
</Trigger>

Just to show an placeholder. This works but something goes wrong when I try to bind property Text to a view model.
<TextBox Text="{Binding NombreCliente}"
Style="{StaticResource SearchTextBox}"
Grid.Row="1"
Tag="Nombre"/>
I've done test and while the textbox have this style the binding always return null or "".
I find in other ask that there's something whith binding parent and they solve whith this
<TextBox Text="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=Text,
UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}"....
But if i bind text to a template parent, how do I bind to viewmodel?
A template of a TextBox should not contain another TextBox control.
Replace it with a ScrollViewer and set the FontFamily and FontSize properties using Style setters:
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type TextBox}">
<Border Background="White" CornerRadius="8" x:Name="container">
<Grid>
<ScrollViewer x:Name="PART_ContentHost" Margin="2" Focusable="false" HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden" VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden"/>
<TextBlock Text="{TemplateBinding Tag}" Name="Placeholder"
FontSize="11" FontFamily="Poppins"
Foreground="Gray"
VerticalAlignment="Center"
IsHitTestVisible="False"
Grid.Column="1" Padding="5" Margin="6,0,0,0">
<TextBlock.Style>
<Style TargetType="{x:Type TextBlock}">
<Style.Triggers>
<DataTrigger Binding="{Binding Text, ElementName=SearchBox}" Value="">
<Setter Property="Visibility" Value="Visible"></Setter>
</DataTrigger>
</Style.Triggers>
<Setter Property="Visibility" Value="Hidden"></Setter>
</Style>
</TextBlock.Style>
</TextBlock>
</Grid>
</Border>
<ControlTemplate.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsEnabled" Value="False">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="#E6E6E6" TargetName="container"/>
</Trigger>
</ControlTemplate.Triggers>
</ControlTemplate>
If this is a template for use in a TextBox, then you have created it incorrectly.
In fact, instead of giving the TextBox room to display the text, you have overlapped it on top with another TextBox that has nothing to do with the one this template will use.
TextBox to display text looks in its template for a ScrollViewer named PART_ContentHost.
And all the property settings of the TextBox must be moved to Setters outside the template.
Example template:
<Style TargetType="TextBox">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="White"/>
<Setter Property="FontFamily" Value="Poppins"/>
<Setter Property="FontSize" Value="11"/>
<Setter Property="Padding" Value="5"/>
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="Black"/>
<Setter Property="Margin" Value="2"/>
<Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="0"/>
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type TextBox}">
<Border Background="{TemplateBinding Background}"
CornerRadius="8" x:Name="container"
Padding="{TemplateBinding Padding}"
BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}"
BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}">
<Grid>
<ScrollViewer x:Name="PART_ContentHost"
Focusable="false"
HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden"
VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden"/>
<TextBlock Text="{TemplateBinding Tag}" Name="Placeholder"
FontSize="11" FontFamily="Poppins"
Foreground="Gray"
VerticalAlignment="Center"
IsHitTestVisible="False"
Grid.Column="1" Padding="5" Margin="6,0,0,0">
<TextBlock.Style>
<Style TargetType="{x:Type TextBlock}">
<Style.Triggers>
<DataTrigger Binding="{Binding Text, ElementName=SearchBox}" Value="">
<Setter Property="Visibility" Value="Visible"></Setter>
</DataTrigger>
</Style.Triggers>
<Setter Property="Visibility" Value="Hidden"/>
</Style>
</TextBlock.Style>
</TextBlock>
</Grid>
</Border>
<ControlTemplate.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsEnabled" Value="False">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="#E6E6E6" TargetName="container"/>
</Trigger>
</ControlTemplate.Triggers>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
</Style>
I have a TextBox input field with a custom style:
<TextBox Style="{StaticResource SettingsTextBoxHint}" KeyDown="textBoxInput_KeyDown" PreviewKeyDown="textBoxInput_PreviewKeyDown" Name="TextBoxInput" Text="{Binding TextBoxInput, Mode=TwoWay}" Tag="{lex:LocText TypeAMessageHere}" VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto" TextWrapping="Wrap" FontSize="14" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Center" VerticalContentAlignment="Center" BorderThickness="0" Margin="0,0,33,0"/>

<Style TargetType="{x:Type TextBox}" x:Key="SettingsTextBoxHint" BasedOn="{StaticResource {x:Type TextBox}}">

</Setter>
</Style>
</TextBox.Style>

<TextBox Margin="0,3,0,0" BorderThickness="0" Text="{TemplateBinding Tag}" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" Panel.ZIndex="1">

The point of which is to make the TextBox transparent and to add hint functionality which text is set trough Tag.
Everything works exactly as I want. The problem I have is that I am writing a new functionality in which I need the position of cursor in the TextBox. But SelectionStart or CaretIndex always return 0 value. If I remove my style I get the correct value.
Can anyone tell me what I missed?
The problem is that you are using a TextBox within a TextBox. The user interacts with the inner text box, whose text, caret position, etc. are in no way related to the outer text box.
Let me clean up your style for you:
<Style x:Key="SettingsTextBoxHint"
TargetType="{x:Type TextBox}"
BasedOn="{StaticResource {x:Type TextBox}}">
<Setter Property="BorderBrush"
Value="{StaticResource PrimaryColor}" />
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="TextBox">
<Border x:Name="Border"
BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}"
Background="{TemplateBinding Background}"
BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}"
Padding="{TemplateBinding Padding}">
<Grid>
<ScrollViewer x:Name="PART_ContentHost" VerticalAlignment="Center" />
<TextBlock x:Name="Hint"
Margin="3,1"
Text="{TemplateBinding Tag}"
FontStyle="Italic"
Foreground="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.GrayTextBrushKey}}"
Visibility="Hidden" />
</Grid>
</Border>
<ControlTemplate.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsEnabled" Value="False">
<Setter TargetName="Border"
Property="Background"
Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.ControlBrushKey}}"/>
<Setter Property="Foreground"
Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.GrayTextBrushKey}}"/>
</Trigger>
<Trigger Property="Text" Value="">
<Setter TargetName="Hint" Property="Visibility" Value="Visible"/>
</Trigger>
</ControlTemplate.Triggers>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
</Style>
To find the cursor position within the TextBox, you can use Mouse.GetPosition(your_text_box). To get the caret position within the text, use the CaretIndex property. Note, however, that CaretIndex is *not* a dependency property, so it does not raise change notifications. Thus, you cannot bind to it and expect the binding target to be updated.
I have a togglebutton and when it is clicked I simply want to change the background and the content. The content changes correctly, but the background changes, but instead of my specified background value, it is a default (?) blue-ish. In previous struggles I could get the background to change, but not the content. That was done differently, though, w/ a datatrigger instead of the method below.
I'm using C# WPF and MVVM and could bind the content to another property and when the binded ischecked property is changed, I could change the property in the viewmodel, but I was hoping not to have to do that. Maybe it's the correct way?
Here's my code that 1/2 works:
<ToggleButton Name="Axis3AbsIncButton"
IsChecked="{Binding Path=UserControlOneStatic.MotionParameters.Axis3AbsorIncOption, Source={StaticResource Locator}}">
<ToggleButton.Style>
<Style TargetType="{x:Type ToggleButton}">
<Setter Property="ToggleButton.Background" Value="Goldenrod"/>
<Setter Property="ToggleButton.Content"
Value="ABS" />
<Style.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsChecked" Value="True">
<Setter Property="ToggleButton.Background"
Value="Green" />
<Setter Property="ToggleButton.Content"
Value="Inc" />
</Trigger>
</Style.Triggers>
</Style >
</ToggleButton.Style>
</ToggleButton>
This is very close, but I have lost the border of the togglebutton:
<ToggleButton Name="Axis3AbsIncButton"
Grid.Row="2"
Grid.Column="13"
Grid.ColumnSpan="2"
Grid.RowSpan="1"
Focusable="True"
IsChecked="{Binding Path=UserControlOneStatic.MotionParameters.Axis3AbsorIncOption, Source={StaticResource Locator}}">
<ToggleButton.Template>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type ToggleButton}">
<Border CornerRadius="3" BorderThickness="1" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}">
<ContentPresenter Margin="3"
HorizontalAlignment="Center"
VerticalAlignment="Center" />
</Border>
<ControlTemplate.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsChecked"
Value="False">
<Setter Property="Background"
Value="Goldenrod">
</Setter>
</Trigger>
<Trigger Property="IsChecked"
Value="True">
<Setter Property="Background"
Value="Blue" />
</Trigger>
</ControlTemplate.Triggers>
</ControlTemplate>
</ToggleButton.Template>
<ToggleButton.Style>
<Style TargetType="{x:Type ToggleButton}">
<Setter Property="ToggleButton.Content"
Value="ABS" />
<Style.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsChecked"
Value="True">
<Setter Property="ToggleButton.Content"
Value="Inc" />
</Trigger>
</Style.Triggers>
</Style >
</ToggleButton.Style>
</ToggleButton>
Your XAML code is correct. When you click ToggleButton, background color changed to green. But it's changing when you move mouse from button. When mouse coursor is over ToggleButton, it has blue color.
Edit:
Try this:
<ToggleButton Name="Axis3AbsIncButton"
Grid.Row="2"
Grid.Column="13"
Grid.ColumnSpan="2"
Grid.RowSpan="1"
Focusable="True"

I have few questions about styling ListView. For example I have some style:
<Style x:Key="MyListView" TargetType="{x:Type ListView}">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.WindowBrushKey}}"/>
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="{StaticResource ListBorder}"/>
<Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="1"/>
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.ControlTextBrushKey}}"/>
<Setter Property="ScrollViewer.HorizontalScrollBarVisibility" Value="Hidden"/>
<Setter Property="ScrollViewer.VerticalScrollBarVisibility" Value="Auto"/>
<Setter Property="ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll" Value="false"/>
<Setter Property="VerticalContentAlignment" Value="Center"/>
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type ListView}">
<Border x:Name="PART_ControlBorder" SnapsToDevicePixels="true" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}" Padding="0">
<Grid>
<ScrollViewer Grid.Row="1"
VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden"
HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden"
CanKeyboardScroll="False"
Padding="{TemplateBinding Padding}"
Focusable="false">
<ItemsPresenter x:Name="PART_ItemsPresenter" SnapsToDevicePixels="{TemplateBinding SnapsToDevicePixels}"/>
</ScrollViewer>
</Grid>
</Border>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
<Setter Property="ItemTemplate">
<Setter.Value>
<DataTemplate>
<Border x:Name="ItemBorder" CornerRadius="4" SnapsToDevicePixels="true" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="2" Padding="1">
<Grid>
<TextBlock Text="{Binding Key}" Background="LightGray"/>
</Grid>
</Border>
</DataTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
<Setter Property="ItemContainerStyle">
<Setter.Value>
<Style TargetType="{x:Type ListViewItem}">
<Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Stretch" />
<Style.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsSelected" Value="True">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="{x:Null}" />
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="{x:Null}" />
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="Black" />
</Trigger>
</Style.Triggers>
</Style>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
</Style>
Why are setters for Backgroud and BorderBrush not working(ItemContainerStyle)? I had to hide selection using redefinition for system Brushes, but its wrong way:
<SolidColorBrush x:Key="{x:Static SystemColors.HighlightBrushKey}" Color="#00000000"/>
How could I set BorderBrush for ItemBorder (on mouseOver event)?
How could I set BorderBrush for ItemBorder(only for selected Items)?
What shall I do to change default selection style?
I'd found answer by myself.
To set style for ItemBorder I had to create few DataTriggers and put them into DataTemplate:
<DataTemplate.Triggers>
<DataTrigger Binding="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Mode=FindAncestor,AncestorType={x:Type ListViewItem}},Path=IsSelected}" Value="True">
<Setter TargetName="ItemBorder" Property="BorderBrush" Value="Lime"/>
</DataTrigger>
<DataTrigger Binding="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Mode=FindAncestor,AncestorType={x:Type ListViewItem}}, Path=IsMouseOver}" Value="True">
<Setter TargetName="ItemBorder" Property="BorderBrush" Value="Orange"/>
</DataTrigger>
</DataTemplate.Triggers>
About question 1 and 4 I still haven't answer...(If I won't count way to change default system brushes)
