this is my navigation code
var frame = NavigationHelper.FindFrame(null, this);
frame.Source = new Uri("../Content/Sale/SaleInvoice/Nested/saleNested.xaml", UriKind.Relative);
Have the page databound to a ViewModel. Once you want to refresh just create a new Viewmodel. It would make sense to have the execution of the reloading being done in a backgroudworker so your UI stays responsive. This is esspecially usefull if you are refreshing some resource from a webService or some other online source.
The Data bind to the page at the initial time to reload the page I'm using this method
On xaml page just add Loaded Property:
<UserControl x:Class="ModernUINavigationApp1.Pages.Page"
...
Loaded="OnLoad" >
Then Add event handler in code behind to make the page do whatever you want when it's loaded
private void OnLoad(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
}
Hope this help :D
Make sure your ViewModel implements INotifyPropertyChanged. If your Page1.xaml's DataContext is set to the ViewModel, and your XAML uses bindings properly, any change to the ViewModel will be reflected in the UI. You won't need to refresh anything. Just update the property in the ViewModel object.
If you update your question with example XAML and C#, I can be of more help.

I have 3 BladeItems in another page. And I want to navigate from MainPage to that page and bring the requested BladeItem into view. But it is not working.
I first thought it was because that the page has not been loaded. So I put it into the Page_Loaded. However, it is still now working. Why is that?
private void Page_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
TitleBarHelper.SetDarkTitleBar();
Window.Current.SetTitleBar(AppTitleBar);
UpdateTitleBarLayout(Windows.ApplicationModel.Core.CoreApplication.GetCurrentView().TitleBar);
FullMediaControl.Update();
SetMusic(MediaHelper.CurrentMusic);
FullPlaylistControl.ScrollToMusic(MediaHelper.CurrentMusic);
if (MusicInfoRequestedWhenUnloaded)
{
MusicPropertyBladeItem.StartBringIntoView();
MusicInfoRequestedWhenUnloaded = false;
}
else if (LyricsRequestedWhenUnloaded)
{
LyricsBladeItem.StartBringIntoView();
LyricsRequestedWhenUnloaded = false;
}
}
Source Page Code is here. This page can be navigated using the "Show Lyrics" or "Music Info" item in the MenuFlyout at the right bottom more button.
And actually the FullPlaylistControl.ScrollToMusic in the code above is also not working. It just scrolls to a row in a ListView. I guess they might be the same reason.
This is the documentation for StartBringIntoView.
According to the instructions in the documentation, this method is only possible when the control is rendered on the visual tree, so you need to modify it when you call the method.
You want MusicPropertyBladeItem.StartBringIntoView() to work, you need to call it in the MusicPropertyBladeItem_Loaded event. For the same reason, you need to call ScrollToMusic when the FullPlaylistControl is loaded.
Page_Loaded only means that the page is loaded, but it doesn't mean that the controls have been rendered.
Best ragards.
I have an issue that I cannot solve myself and need your support.
In my WPF-Application I have a MainWindow with some kind of navigation bar (based on System.Windows.Controls.Ribbon) and a content area.
When I click one button1 (RibbonButton), I assign a Page to the content area of the MainWindow.
In the Page I have a combobox with several values/items and I want the value to be selected that matches to the label or name of the button I pressed in the navigation.
When I press the other button in the navigation, another item should be selected in the combobox.
Unfortunately, in my button_click event that is in the code behind of the MainWindow, I am not able to access the combobox of the Page-object.
Can someone help me how to access the combobox of the Page-object within the click event of the MainWindow?
Thank you and regards
TPS
are you using MVVM?
As I read you are using code behind in your code right?, I guess you have a reference to your page I right? I think you can create a public method on the Page I, and send the value you want to be set in the commbobox through that method, then if you are using mvvm, send that value to your viewmodel property asociated with the combobox SelectedItem.
private void ribonButton_click()
{ thePageI.SetComboboxwith("this value");
.....
}
in the PageI
public void SetCombobox( string theValue){
myViewModel.SetSelectedItem(theValue);
}
Something like that
I have two Pages ProductSearch,ProductDetail and Im changing the Content property to Navigate between Pages. I want to know if any events are fired so I can write some code in it?
On ProductDetail Page I have UIElement property
public UIElement MainContent { get; set; }
On ProductSearch Page I Navigate to ProductDetail By setting the Content property like this:
private void OnGetDetailsClick(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
ProductDetail productDetail = new ProductDetail();
productDetail.MainContent = this.Content;
this.Content = productDetail;
}
On ProductDetail Page's Back Button I navigate back to ProductSearch:
private void OnBackButtonClick(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
this.Content = MainContent;
}
Now I want to know how can I call a method when I navigate Back to ProductSearch Page i.e how would I know that I have Navigated from ProductDetail Page? I tried to check if it loads the page but found out that When you change content of control it doesn't fire the load event of the page. Any solution?
Yea this will not execute the load event since your are only changing the content obviously.
if you want to take advantage of navigation you should check out this video. Even if its done with blend the concepts apply also with Visual STudio: https://vimeo.com/6599527 (Simple Silverlight Master/Detail Navigation App with Blend 3)
You should check out articles on master detail binding like this one: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645060(v=vs.95).aspx
The key is to take advantage of the powerful binding concepts which come with silverlight. And if you are not using deep linking you might want to consider using a user control to hide/show details instead of a extra page.
HTH
I'm currently building a universal app but I'm concentrating on the WP8.1 part of it right now. I'm using MVVMLight with this project.
For simplicity sake, we'll just assume that I only have 2 pages in the project.
Page1.xaml contains a list which has various items. The Page1.xaml is binded to its own ViewModel i.e. Page1ViewModel. Each item in the list represents a viewModel i.e. ItemViewModel.
When I tap on an item, I call the following code:
public RelayCommand<ItemViewModel> ItemTapCommand
{
get
{
return this._itemTapCommand ?? (this._itemTapCommand =
new RelayCommand<ItemViewModel>((msg) =>
ExecuteItempTapCommand(msg)));
}
}
When an item in the list is tapped, I call the following code:
private object ExecuteItempTapCommand(ItemViewModel selectedItemViewModel)
{
Page2ViewModel page2ViewModel =
SimpleIoc.Default.GetInstance<ItemViewModel>();
page2ViewModel.SelectedItem = selectedItemViewModel;
_navigationService.Navigate(typeof(Page2),
selectedItemViewModel);
return null;
}
As you can see I'm using my Ioc to create get an instance of my Page2ViewModel and I then set the SelectedItem to the selectedItemViewModel.
Once it is set, I navigate to Page2 which is binded to my Page2ViewModel.
What I want to know is, is the above is ok to do? I've seen plenty of examples when dealing with passing object from one page to another is done by passing an Id for example and then I request the information from Page2, but why request it again when most of the information I need is already in my SelectedItemViewModel since it represents the tapped item in my list in Page1.
If it's not correct, what is the best way to go about this using MVVMLight?
Can you provide a sample? I've seen something about Messaging but I'm not sure how this would work as if I navigate to my page2, the Page2ViewModel will only be initiated when the page is created, so how can it receive a message? The way I have it above seems to initiate the Page2ViewModel and my Pag2 loads, it's re-using it and everything bind correctly but I'm not sure this is the correct way to go about it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
In your Page2ViewModel, why not use
protected override void OnNavigatedTo(NavigationEventArgs e)
{
Page2SelectedItem = e.Parameter as ItemViewModel;
base.OnNavigatedTo(e);
}
It looks like you are packing that data in with your _navigationService.Navigate call already.
With that set up, what happens if you just change to:
private object ExecuteItempTapCommand(ItemViewModel selectedItemViewModel)
{
_navigationService.Navigate(typeof(Page2), selectedItemViewModel);
return null;
}
You can use the ViewModel to get it if you do some work before that.
Read this blog post by Marco Minerva called Calling ViewModel methods in response to Page navigation events using MVVM Light in WinRT
which explains how to react to OnNavigatedTo and OnNavigatedFrom in the ViewModel.
It's a very cool solution.
I am building a Windows 8 app (C#/XAML) and using the Frame.Navigate() property to move between pages. Each page has an AppBar icon that will refresh that data on a page, and set the DataContext property. This works, and the UI updates accordingly after the button is pressed.
The problem I'm seeing shows up when I navigate to a different page, then click the back arrow to return to the previous page.
When the OnNavigatedTo(NavigationEventArgs e) method runs (after clicking the back arrow), the e.Parameter value is and old value (before I clicked the refresh button, and the DataContext was updated).
I don't know how to update the parameter value any other way than using Frame.Navigate(typeof(PageTypeName), paramValue);, but I don't want to initiate a navigation action.
My question is two fold.
How can I persist DataContext changes so that when I return to pages, the value I've set is exposed via e.Parameter in the OnNavigatedTo(NavigationEventArgs e) method.
Is there some kind of reference metrial that explains the Navigation lifecycle in Win8 Apps?
... or should I be doing this a different way?
I found the solution.
NavigationCacheMode = Windows.UI.Xaml.Navigation.NavigationCacheMode.Required;
This tells the frame that it should always cache the old instance of my page, and not create a new one when i navigate back to it.
This way my new DataContext value is not overwritten when I return to the page.
