I have files on a local server with the address of \\localServerAddress\Folder\Program.exe. I need to remove the server address dynamically and replace it with a different server address that is being selected elsewhere in the form. The server names can be different lengths, therefore, I can not use the string.Substring function.
So given the input
\\localServerAddress\Folder\Program.exe
I would like the result
\\differentServerAddress\Folder\Program.exe

If you are always working with UNCs
Then
string toRemove = new Uri(yourString).host;
string newString = yourString.Replace(String.format(#"\\{0})",toRemove)
, String.format(#"\\{0})",whateveryouwant));

Use this method:
string changeServerInPathString(string originalString, string newServer)
{
List<string> stringParts = originalString.TrimStart('\\').Split('\\').ToList();
stringParts.RemoveAt(0);
stringParts.Insert(0, newServer);
return string.Join("\\", stringParts.ToArray()).Insert(0, "\\\\");
}

You can use something like this:
void Main()
{
string path = #"\\localServerAddress\Folder\Program.exe";
UriBuilder bld = new UriBuilder(path);
bld.Host = "NewServer";
Console.WriteLine(bld.Uri.LocalPath);
}
Result: \\newserver\Folder\Program.exe

string text = #"\\test\FolderName\foo.exe";
text = text.Replace('\\', '-'); \\ this is done as I was not able to make the regex **\\\\\\(.)*?\\** , work.
Regex rg = new Regex("--.*?-"); \\ if in case the above mentioned regex is made to work correctly please replace the regex with the same.
text = rg.Replace(text, "");
Console.WriteLine(text.Replace('-', '\\'));
Console.Read();

The code is supposed to put all letters into lower case and change j to i, which it does. But I'm trying to take out any duplicate letters.
example inputted string = jjjaaaMMM expected output string = jam
what actually happens real output string = m please help I'm not sure what I'm missing.
string key = Secret.Text;
var keyLow = key.ToLower();
var newKey = keyLow.Replace("j", "i");
var set = new HashSet<char>(newKey);
foreach (char c in set)
{
Secret.Text = Char.ToString(c);
}
Your issue is entirely the = in
Secret.Text = Char.ToString(c);
it needs to be +=
Secret.Text += Char.ToString(c);
You were overwriting each value with the next.
However you could just use linq
Secret.Text = string.Concat(key.ToLower().Replace("j", "i").Distinct());
or probably more efficiently from #Ben Voigt comments
Since you have a sequence of char, it's probably more efficient to
call the string constructor than Concat
Secret.Text = new string(set.ToArray());
// or
Secret.Text = new string(key.ToLower()
.Replace("j", "i")
.Distinct()
.ToArray());
Additional Resources
String.Concat Method
Concatenates one or more instances of String, or the String
representations of the values of one or more instances of Object.
Enumerable.Distinct Method
Returns distinct elements from a sequence.
Others may answer the question directly. I'll provide an alternative. As always with string manipulation, there's a Regex for that.
var output = Regex.Replace(input, #"(.)\1*", "$1");
You can use Linq approach:
var text = key.ToLower().Distinct().ToArray();
Don't forgot add using System.Linq

I have this FINAL PAYMENT $25 string on a MVC c# application.
I want to split into FINAL PAYMENT and 25
I tried doing this
string s = "FINAL PAYMENT $25";
string[] str1 = s.Split('$');
//result: 25
How can I get the rest. Can anyone help?
Split method returns a string array, if you need both elements of this array, Try:
string s = "FINAL PAYMENT $25";
string[] resArray = s.Split('$');
var FPayment = resArray[0];
var second25= resArray[1];
You can use indexOf instead of a Split
string s = "FINAL PAYMENT $25";
int index = s.IndexOf("$");
String final_pay = s.Substring(index + 1);

I would like to split directory into two parts:
For example
//Hello//Products//App//Images//Room//40//Tulips.jpg
into
//Hello//Products//App
and
//Images//Room..40//Tulips.jpg
var splitOn = "App";
var path = "//Hello//Products//App//Images//Room//40//Tulips.jpg";
var parts = path.Split(new string[] { splitOn }, StringSplitOptions.None);
Console.WriteLine(parts[0] + splitOn);
Console.WriteLine(parts[1]);
In order to split by a word (or in this case folder) you need to wrap the term in a string array before passing it to the String.Split function. Splitting on "App" will also remove "App" from the result, so we concatenate it again before we write it to the console.
First split the string based on the double forward slash and then assign to array.
string path= Hello//Products//App//Images//Room//40//Tulips.jpg
string[] names = path.Split('//');
After this collect the words like this:-
string first_part=names[0] + "//" + names[1];

string oldstring = textBox9.Text;
string newstring = oldstring.Remove(0, 2);
string o = newstring.Remove(4, 7);
Now, I want to get only "1500",rest of the things to be removed.
How can I do this? Please help me.
Try the following code
string newstring = Regex.Replace(oldstring, #"[^\d]", "");
It shall work.
there are number of ways to do this.. you can use Split() as below:
string oldstring = "Rs1500/ONLY";
string[] newstring = oldstring.Split('/');
string o = newstring[0];
This will give you "RS 1500" as result.
And if you want to remove RS as well then just add the below code in last of the above code:
string final = newstring[0].ToString().Replace("Rs","");
That's All
You can use Replace
string oldstring = textBox9.Text;
string newstring = oldstring.Replace("Rs","").Replace("/ONLY","");
This should give you only 1500
Try this way
string ss = "Rs1500/ONLY";
string[] newss = ss.Split('/');
ss = newss[0].ToString().Replace("Rs","");//Or try string.Empty() for instead of ""
See this demo code : with output

Why doesn't this regex, constructed like this:
tmprect = string "gg_rct_MyReg1"
regex = #"^\s*set\s+"+tmprect+#"\s*=\s*Rect\s*\(\s*(.+)\s*,\s*(.+)\s*,\s*(.+)\s*,\s**(.+)\s*\).*$";
not work for
set gg_rct_MyReg1 = Rect (-704.0 , -352.0, 224.0 , 448.0) //rect 1
What did I do wrong?
///edited:
string findrectcoord = #"^\s*set\s+" + tmprect + #"\s*=\s*Rect\s*\(\s*([^,\s]*)\s*,\s*([^,\s]*)\s*,\s*([^,\s]*)\s*,\s*([^)\s]*)\s*\).*$";
StreamReader file3 = new StreamReader(openFileDialog1.FileName);
string line2;
while ((line2 = file3.ReadLine()) != null)
{
Regex foundrectr = new Regex(findrectcoord);
Match foundrectm = foundrectr.Match(line2);
if (foundrectm.Success)
{
MessageBox.Show("YES");
}
}
string:
set gg_rct_MyReg1 = Rect( -704.0 , -352.0, 224.0 , 288.0 ) //JassCode

The regex itself, while ugly and inefficient, should work. You do need to assign the string you're adding into the regex before building the regex, though. While we're at it, let's clean it up:
string tmprect = "gg_rct_MyReg1";
Regex regexObj = new Regex(#"^\s*set\s+" + tmprect +
#"\s*=\s*Rect\s*\(\s*([^,\s]*)\s*,\s*([^,\s]*)\s*,\s*([^,\s]*)\s*,\s*([^)\s]*)\s*\).*$");
([^,\s]*) matches any number of characters except commas or spaces. That is more specific than .* which will match too much and force the regex engine to backtrack.
