Is there a xamarin component that will handle PIN entry? - c#

I see there is an iOS and iPad, PIN Code Control xamarin component, that will give your a programmatic numeric keypad for PIN Entry. Short of coding the entire thing using C# in Xamarin I would prefer to find a component.
I need a PIN code control, xamarin component that is cross platform, which is the purpose of xamarin forms. We will be using this on Android and iOS devices.
Has anyone see such a component on Xamarin's Component Store and I am using the wrong search terms, PIN, Keypad, Numeric?

For future googlers: you might be interested in a small Xamarin.Forms library XamarinFormsPinView. I'm the author.
It's not very configurable, but should fill most common requirements.

Sorry, I have not seen a component that does what you need.
This Xamarin.Forms calculator sample might be a useful starting point for writing a custom one (since it already implements a numeric keyboard entry with display and backspace).
Obviously there's a lot of styling work required to get it looking like any of the native PIN entry screens - but it should save you writing from scratch.

If you need attractive xamarin forms pin passcode form with high control, check out this repo. It is not a library and it does not use MVVM models. It is just .XAML page with code behind it.

Enable Back/Forward & Refresh Gestures in Universal Windows App (XAML)

I'm building a set of small internal apps for our business. A majority are web based tools. To provide easy access to all of the tools to all our staff. Previously I built small windows applications which are used currently. However, I'm looking to upgrade these to Universal Apps as we can better distribute future applications through our Microsoft Business Store.
Currently when placing a WebView into the UWP app, the app loads and functions as expected in terms of loading the WebView. However I cannot seem to find a means to implement Back / Forward navigation (previously this was a toggled option in the properties group) if a user navigates using Back/Forward on their mouse etc. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. No doubt it's something quite obvious I haven't spotted.
I was expecting the basic back / forward navigation to work out of the box (as is the case I have experienced previously when developing for other platforms)
The app I'm currently working on is using the UWP with XAML and C# and currently has the WebViews implemented using:
<WebView x:Name="webView" Source="https://app.domain.com"/>
within MainPage.xaml and no further modifications made to this app as it stands.
I regularly use SO as a guest to find answers to questions but I couldn't see a direct answer to this scenario.
Thanks
The WebView class has built-in APIs that could Go Back/Forward. You could add some buttons and call them in the click event.

Identifying this control for Xamarin.Forms?

This is the first Xamarin.Forms app I try to create, so please bear with me.
I'm learning about Xamarin.Forms, and I'm creating my first app (with a map) that will run in the android emulator. I've already added the map, so life is good.
I also understand that, unlike asp.net webforms or Windows forms, I cannot drag & drop controls to the form. I also don't know what the available controls for each platform look like.
With that said, I would like to add the following control to my app. I have no idea how it's called, but it's sort of a panel on the bottom half of the screen. This panel will include a list (much like a gridview).
I saw this Xamarin page with a list of standard controls, but I don't know how to identify them. Even worse, I don't know what to search for in the web.
I would like to know where I can find information on adding that control to a form and populating it with data (like an asp.net gridview)
Something like that is usually rendered using an ActionSheet
Unfortunately there isn't such a control. On iOS it is done by partially covering the screen while presenting the TableViewController. You can't do something like that on Xamarin.Forms. You can do that only on native projects.
There might be some plugins that may do some of that work for you but I don't think any of them fits your request, but you can try how far you can get with this one: https://github.com/rotorgames/Rg.Plugins.Popup
Please note that Xamarin.Forms don't cover all native controls and especially not all properties of those controls. And while you may extend their reach in various ways if you are after copying everything you see in some app it is better to think of some other technology.
Also of note, Android doesn't support everything that iOS supports, so if you see something on iOS screen (like above) it may not be supported on Android, no matter what technology you use you will have to build a very custom solution, which probably isn't part of your first app.

Custom UI control for Android and IOS using C#

I've just started looking at how I can generate and port applications to Android and IOS, I've started to look at Xamarin. First, I'm looking to generate custom UI control of a 10x10 Matrix (checkerboard - each square is a different colour) with each square being able to be selected and a specific image being displayed.
After looking at the documents and looking at MVVM examples, I'm not entirely sure what the best method of doing this : How should I structure the code (should I use just SVG drawing) or is there a better method of doing this in Android and IOS ?
To be honest I would start with Xamarin Forms and create a grid control with 10x10 image buttons. This way you get the event handling built-in. This would work for iOS, Android & Windows Phone out of the box. From there you could evolve it to more native specific code if necessary.
If you want to control the look pixel perfect then creating native custom rendered views would be the option but this is much more work of course so I would not start there. On Android you would subclass from Android.Widget.View and on iOS you would do it from MonoTouch.UIKit.UIView. For both you would override the Draw method.

Windows Phone Custom Control Design and Implementation

I am working on a windows phone app, in which I will need to add a costom "cover-flow" kind of control like how it looks like in the Spotify app below:
Note: user can swipe from right to left to change song.
I don't think Windows Phone SDK provide any controls support this, so I was wondering how such a thing is implemented.
I think it is either faked by a pivot page with dynamically adding/deleting pivot items, or maybe it is a custom control.
If I want to implement this as a custom control, does anyone has experience about it, or any sample code/tutorial will be very helpful.
Thank you
You're looking at a Panorama control. It is available out of the box with the Windows Phone SDK.
Telerik makes a great control that does just this. It's called the SlideView control. I know it's not free, but it is only $99. Given that it might take you about 4-10 hours to create this control yourself, I'd say it's worth it. If you join the Nokia Premium Developer Program you get Telerik's controls for free.
Note: I do not work for Nokia or Telerik and this is NOT a paid advertisement :)
The swipping effect is because of Panorama page. to change music you need to handle gestures that will be a tough task . The solution is to find a hack or have some control in the background that registers the touch event and changes the music

Developing a custom keyboard (like Swype) for Windows Phone 7.1 Mango

Having recently bought a Windows Phone I can say the one feature I sorely miss from my Android phone is Swype. This was a custom keyboard where you trace your finger over the keyboard to create words. Its very fast and basically I think its awesome.
Anyway! There is no Swype on WP7... The reason for this I hear is because it is impossible to change the keyboard programmatically in Windows phone. I would like to know from the community if things have changed or are likely to change in this area, or if there are any workarounds to programmatically inject a custom keyboard into the UI to allow input with any text field.
Disclosure - if it becomes possible I would like to develop a swype like app, however it would likely be because I miss it so much rather than as a commercial project!
Best regards,
There is no way to officially create a new keyboard that functions outside of your app. So, if you plan to release this in the marketplace, then it's not currently possible. You might be able to create a homebrew app that does this, but I don't think it would be very easy to replace the standard keyboard system wide. Of course, even if you did manage the homebrew version, it definitely wouldn't be allowed on the Marketplace.
You're limited by what Microsoft allows you to alter and they don't allow you to alter the keyboard. Furthermore Swype is a patented and very advanced technology that would be a humongous project for a single developer to work one. It's a good idea as lots of people like Swype but WP7 isn't Android.
