Haw to pass an id to server side method in asp.net - c#

I have a gridview and I want to keep the headers as hyperlink to navigate the link in new tab
<asp:TemplateField
<HeaderTemplate>
<asp:HyperLink ID="hlnk" runat="server" Target="_blank" NavigateUrl='<%# GettheNavigateUrl()%>'>Header</asp:HyperLink>
</HeaderTemplate>
...........
protected string GettheNavigateUrl()
{
return "http://www.google.com/";
}
Now I want to pass the id to the method. How to do it '<%# GettheNavigateUrl(??)%>'

This will work with Jquery
NavigateUrl='<%# GettheNavigateUrl($(this).attr('id'))%>'>
Jquery is Third Party Library which helps you optimize js Code
or
Have a look at this link
http://weblogs.asp.net/gurusarkar/pass-querystring-parameter-with-navigaterurl-in-hyperlink-inside-a-gridview

try this:
in .aspx
<asp:HyperLink ID="hlnk" runat="server" Target="_blank" >Header</asp:HyperLink>
You can add RowDataBound method as GridView_RowDataBound
OnRowDataBound="GridView_RowDataBound"
in code
protected string GridView_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.Header)
{
HyperLink hyp = (HyperLink)e.Row.FindControl("hyp");
hyp.NavigateUrl = "www.google.com" + hyp.ClientID;
// hyp.ClientID is your id of control
}
}

Using markup in label text or similar element

I have
<asp:Label ID="lbl_ReadOnlyFld" runat="server"></asp:Label> <%=GetGuiLocalString("lbl_ReadOnlyFldDescr")%>
I need the text in some element so I can access it:
For example:
<asp:Label ID="lbl_InputFld" runat="server"></asp:Label><asp:Label ID="lbl_InputFldDescr" runat="server" text=' <%= GetGuiLocalString("lbl_InputFldDescr")%>'></asp:Label>
It just gives me stuff inside ''... any help would be appreciated.
Regards.
<%= is meant to directly output something on the page and can't be used inside other controls.
You should either use <%# and databind the control or set the text in the code behind. Also the other stuff should be inside those tags so it would be:
<asp:Label ID="lbl_InputFldDescr" runat="server" text='<%# " " + GetGuiLocalString("lbl_InputFldDescr")%>' />
and then lbl_InputFldDescr.DataBind(); somewhere in your code behind (provided you don't already databind the page or someting).
ASPX:
<asp:Label ID="lbl_InputFld" runat="server">my name is Jhon</asp:Label>
<asp:Label ID="lbl_InputFldDescr" runat="server" text='<%# " " + GetGuiLocalString("lbl_InputFldDescr")%>'></asp:Label>
Code behind:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
DataBind();
}
public string GetGuiLocalString(string id)
{
string s = "hello";
Label lbl = (Label)Form.FindControl(id);
if(lbl!=null)
{
if ( ! string.IsNullOrEmpty(lbl.Text))
s = lbl.Text;
}
return s;
}

Gridview rowdatabound error : Multiple controls with the same ID 'hlLink' were found. FindControl requires that controls have unique ID

I have a gridview that has link and description to be rendered on the page.
written the below code in gridview in .aspx
<Columns>
<asp:TemplateField>
<ItemTemplate>
<p>
<asp:HyperLink ID="hlLink" runat="server" Target="_self"></asp:HyperLink></p>
</ItemTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<p>
<asp:Literal ID="litSummary" runat="server"></asp:Literal></p>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
<asp:TemplateField>
<AlternatingItemTemplate>
<p>
<asp:HyperLink ID="hlLink" runat="server" Target="_self"></asp:HyperLink></p>
</AlternatingItemTemplate>
<AlternatingItemTemplate>
<p>
<asp:Literal ID="litSummary" runat="server"></asp:Literal></p>
</AlternatingItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
</Columns>
and below in .aspx.csin gridview rowdataboundevent
protected void gvResults_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
{
SearchResultItem data = (SearchResultItem)e.Row.DataItem;
HyperLink hlLink = (HyperLink)e.Row.FindControl("hlLink");
Literal litSummary = (Literal)e.Row.FindControl("litSummary");
if (data.Description != null)
{
hlLink.Text = data.Title;
hlLink.NavigateUrl = data.Path.Replace("&", "&");
litSummary.Text = data.Description;
}
else
{
hlLink.Text = data.Path;
hlLink.NavigateUrl = data.Path.Replace("&", "&");
litSummary.Text = data.Path;
}
}
here SearchResultItem: is the result item that has link and description details.
First time when row bound event is called, it binds the data correctly, second time when called throws error "Multiple controls with the same ID 'hlLink' were found. FindControl requires that controls have unique IDs.
Please let me know whats error with the code.
Thanks
Problem : you are trying to create the same controls with same ID multiple times.
Solution : you need to remove the controls before creating them.
Try This:
void RemoveControls()
{
HyperLink l1 = (HyperLink)Page.FindControl("hlLink");
Literal l2 = (Literal)Page.FindControl("litSummary");
if(l1!= null)
Page.Controls.Remove(l1);
if(l2!= null)
Page.Controls.Remove(l2);
}
Solution 2: Pagination for Repeater control.
for implementing pagination in Repeater control you need to create PagedDataSource.
Try This:
PagedDataSource pds = new PagedDataSource();
pds.DataSource = ds.Tables[0].DefaultView;
pds.AllowPaging = true;
pds.PageSize = 8;//page sizes

Problem with a hyperlink

I put a hyperlink inside a datalist..
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" runat="server">'<%# Eval("ThreadTitle") %>'</asp:HyperLink>
<br />
<br />
</ItemTemplate>
I want it to enable it to be pressed so that the datalist event will be triggered and transfer me to another page:
protected void DataList1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Server.Transfer("AnswerQuestion.aspx?x=" + DataList1.DataKeyField + "&question=" + DataList1.SelectedValue + "&time=" + DateTime.Now);
}
Unfortunately, the link seems to be disabled and I cant press on it to trigger the DataList Selected event..
How can I make the hyperlink active ?
If you want to trigger a selecteditemchaned event use a LinkButton instead of hyperlink.
<asp:DataList ID="DataList1" runat="server"
onselectedindexchanged="DataList1_SelectedIndexChanged">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton ID="sjdj" runat="server" CommandName="Select">
<%# Container.DataItem %></asp:LinkButton>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:DataList>
In the code behind have
protected void DataList1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Server.Transfer("~/jjtestjj.aspx?" + DataList1.DataKeyField);
}
why arent you using the Hyperlink as a hyperlink?
You can set the NavigationURL and Text using the OnItemDataBound (or equivalent) event.
this code works with an asp:Repeater:
protected void Row_DataItem(object row, RepeaterItemEventArgs args)
{
if (args.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.AlternatingItem || args.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.Item)
{
var item = (DataItemPOCO)args.Item.DataItem;
var link = (HyperLink)args.Item.FindControl("HyperLink1");
link.Text = item.LinkText;
link.NavigateUrl = item.URL;
}
}

How to set a column in gridview as hyperlink which is autogenerated

I want to make the gridview.columns[0] as hyperlink. I tried so many work around mentioned in different sites. I am binding a list<> to the grid. and I need to make the first column as hyperlink and upon clicking that link, it should be redirected to a page with the corresponding item.
Which event I need to use and how can I pass that value from the list?
void GridView1_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
{
var firstCell = e.Row.Cells[0];
firstCell.Controls.Clear();
firstCell.Controls.Add(new HyperLink { NavigateUrl = firstCell.Text, Text = firstCell.Text });
}
}
Be warned that if you bind data to grid only first time page loaded then your changes will disappear.
You have to make that column as Template Column
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" runat="server" Text="test" NavigateUrl='<%# Eval("fieldName", "show.aspx?ID={0}") %>'></asp:HyperLink>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>

Programmatically access GridView columns and manipulate

I have a GridView :
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowPaging="True" GridLines="None"
HorizontalAlign="Left" AutoGenerateColumns="False"
DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" onrowcommand="GridView1_RowCommand1">
<HeaderStyle HorizontalAlign="Left" />
<Columns>
<asp:TemplateField HeaderStyle-Width="150">
<HeaderTemplate>
<b>Downloads</b>
</HeaderTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<!-- <asp:HyperLink ID="hyperlinkDownload" runat="server" NavigateUrl="" >Download
MP3</asp:HyperLink> -->
<asp:LinkButton CommandName="download"
CommandArgument='<%# Eval("Name") %>' runat="server">Download MP3</asp:LinkButton>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
</asp:GridView>
I want to query the value of a particular field in a DB and if it's true, display the LinkButton. if false, I want the linkButton not to be displayed.
is there a way to access the GridView programmatically and make visible certain of its columns or manipulate its items ?
help.
You can do this by adding a handler to the RowDataBound event. Add an event handler along this lines of this in your code behind:
protected void myGrid_RowDataBound(Object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
var data = e.Row.DataItem as DataRowView;
if (data != null)
{
var lbtDownload = e.Row.FindControl("lbtDownload");
lbtDownload.Visible = (bool) data.Row["HasFileForDownload"];
}
}
In your markup, attach the event handler to the grid:
<asp:GridView OnRowDataBound="myGrid_RowDataBound" ...>
You will also need to assign an id to the LinkButton, matching the one that you are search for using the FindControl() method in the event handler.
Disclaimer: I am on currently a Linux machine with no chance of testing this. Please report any bugs in the code - feel free to correct them if you have editor rights.
Yes there is.
1) You need to subscribe the RowDataBound event.
2) Give the LinkButton an ID.
3) Insert in codebehind
protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(Object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
if(e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
{
LinkButton _bt = e.Row.FindControl("ID") as LinkButton;
if(_bt != null)
{
// have a look at the e.row.DataItem and try to get the value of your desired visibility property
_bt.Visible = true;
}
}
}
4) If this does not work with accessing the DataItem, start thinking about a LinqDataSource.
