I understand there are various posts similar to this issue but there are none which match the problem I am having.
I have downloaded Visual Studio 2015 Express for Web, but I cannot create an MVC 4 web application as this option is not available when I create a new project.
I have tried to find the tools in the NuGet package manager but I have had no success.
Using the web platform installer I have managed to download an ASP.NET MVC 4 with language packs (2012) but that hasn't seemed to have any effect on my visual studio (I'm not even sure if its installed correctly).
Any help or guidance on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: This is the options I have when I select "New Project":

I do have a very odd problem with Visual Studio 2019 (Professional version 16.9.2) when trying to create a new project with a ASP.NET Core Web Application template.
Although I have a a lot of templates available, my list of new project is desperately not showing the template, and none of ASP.Net Core ones (the ones with the little planet, a circle and a blue dot icon) this is the icon I don't have, it's not taken from my machine
My version of VS is up to date, I've installed the .NET Core cross-platform development my Visual Studio configuration
I've installed the .NET Core package (I tried with all versions).
No matter which option I'm chosing in the Update tool, I still have the same list of templates, it never changes.
I've reinstalled VS from scatch. I've tried on 4 different machines (1 physical machine, 1 virtual desktop and 2 servers). I've also tried from line command prompt by using dotnet new, but I do have exactly the same list then the one in VS.
I've also tried to change the templates location from my local profile folder to the C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2019\Professional\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates
But the templates list remains the same.
I'm out of ideas, sounds like I tried almost everything, for now I'm stuck!
If anyone among you has any idea or already had this issue, please let me know!
Thanks everyone for any help you could grant.
I finally found a way to have the 'missing' template. It seems that in VS 2019 the ASP.NET Core Web Application template has been replaced by the ASP.NET Core Empty.
I had to tweak it a little, but seems to be now Ok.
I hope this helps some folks
Install the ASP.NET and web development workload.
Visual Studio Installer -> Click on Modify -> Select ASP.NET and web development workload.
I've search the web and found questions from 3-9 years ago.
My problem is that I can't find anywhere the .NET standard or Windows Console Application or Windows Desktop Application or class Library for C#.
When I had Visual Studio 2015 - it was there by default.
Today I have Visual Studio 2017 and window 10 and I can't get my things together.
Are they canceled?
What is the other option?
When I look at my New project library -> Online -> Visual C#
There are many different applications but non of them seems to come from Microsoft.
Meanwhile I've got a .NET Core API Solution template but it has a lot of errors.
Please help
visual studio c# extensions missing
Just like Joe said, you should use Visual Studio installer to install the modules you need. Visual Studio 2017 use the a new way to install Visual Studio! In the newest version, MS have made it easier for you to select and install just the features you need. MS have also reduced the minimum footprint of Visual Studio so that it installs more quickly and with less system impact than ever before.
After the installer is installed, you can use it to customize your installation by selecting the feature sets—or workloads—that you want.
For the .NET core API project, you need install module .NET Core cross-platform development.
Check the document Install Visual Studio 2017 for some more details.
Hope this helps.
I need to upgrade a project from ASP.NET MVC 4 to ASP.NET MVC 5. I'm using Visual Studio Premium 2012 on a VM and I checked on the Internet how to do so. I installed ASP.NET and Web Tools 2013.1 for Visual Studio 2012 (whose name is now 2012.2 update) and from what I've seen on the web I should be able to create a new ASP.NET MVC 5 Empty Project in Visual Studio. But nothing has changed and I can't see the ASP.NET MVC 5 in my projects creation list :
Project creation (Sorry for French language)
I installed it from the Web Platform Installer that asserts that the update has been installed (I actually uninstalled it and installed it again to be sure) :
Web Platform Installer 5.0
I also tried to repair VS 2012.
If somebody already had this issue and knows how to solve it, it would help a lot.
You can check the below link and try t install WebNode11Pack.exe from the link specified on the link below :

Link to downlaod the Webnode11Pack.exe is as under :

I've got a project that's set to Azure 2.6. I have Visual Studio 2015 installed. I get prompted to upgrade the project (see image 1 below), which I do not want to do (it's production code and I don't know what the side effects may be, how many things might break).
I tried installing Azure 2.6 and related tools, but it doesn't help. Image 2 shows all the Azure related stuff I have installed
I have a coworker who has Visual Studio 2015 and can load the Azure project in the solution without a problem (see image 3). So it's clear that you don't have to upgrade the project.
I'm going to try installing VS 2013 Community Edition + Azure 2.7 tools to see if that satisfies it. I'm grasping at straws at this point.
Any ideas?
A coworker helped me to come up with the solution:
Go to the "Microsoft Azure SDK for .NET - 2.6" page here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46892
Download "MicrosoftAzureTools.VS140.exe" and install it
Run appwiz.cpl from the run prompt and filter on "azure" in upper right
You should see "Microsoft Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 - v2.6"
Open Visual Studio 2015 again and your project should now load without prompting to upgrade. Do a Rebuild All just in case to make sure it builds.
It turns out I had dang near everything installed except that one 2015 tools + 2.6 Azure combination.
First off these questions are related but do not fix my problem:
Missing Project Template after installing ASP.NET MVC 2
Used Web Platform installer to install the MVC Framework but the MVC template isn't available
I have installed Visual Studio Web Developer Express Edition 2010, then I installed MVC 2. Now I can successfully run a MVC 2 application, however I have to do the manual imports of the namespaces and stuff.
How can I install the templates?
You could try copying the project templates from the default folder into the personal templates folder. To do this:
Go to "%PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\Web\1033" (folder might vary since I'm using VS2010 Ultimate, but you can locate the folder easily by just looking for ProjectTemplates folder at %PROGRAMFILES%).
Locate and copy the MvcWebApplicationProjectTemplatev2.0.cs.zip and EmptyMvcWebApplicationProjectTemplatev2.0.cs.zip files into "%HOMEPATH%\My Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Templates\ProjectTemplates\Visual C#"
If you are running Visual Studio you'll need to restart it before you can see any effects.
Note that if you are VB.NET instead of C# you'll need to adjust the provided paths to match VB.
Nevertheless I'd suggest that you try uninstalling and then re-installing ASP.NET MVC since this steps won't plug-in all the tooling MVC provides for VS.
