WPF VisualState - "Pressed" event will not fire - c#

I am playing around with XAML ControlTemplates for the first time and am having a strange time with one basic animation I am working on.
In the style below, the Pressed visualstate will absolutely not trigger the ScaleTransform. If I change Pressed to Focused or MouseOver, it works just fine.
What am I missing?
<Style x:Key="ButtonStyle" TargetType="{x:Type Button}">
<Setter Property="VerticalContentAlignment" Value="Center" />
<Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Center" />
<Setter Property="SnapsToDevicePixels" Value="True" />
<Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="1" />
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="{StaticResource Button.BorderBrush}" />
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type Button}">
<Border x:Name="Button_Border"
Background="{StaticResource Button.BackgroundBrush}"
BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}"
BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}"
Padding="5,2,5,2"
CornerRadius="2">
<Border.RenderTransform>
<ScaleTransform x:Name="Button_ScaleTransform"
CenterX="0.5"
CenterY="0.5" />
</Border.RenderTransform>
<VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<VisualStateGroup>
<VisualState x:Name="Normal" />
<VisualState x:Name="Pressed">
<Storyboard>
<DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetName="Button_Border"
Storyboard.TargetProperty="RenderTransform.ScaleX">
<EasingDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="0:0:0.0" Value="0.9" />
</DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
<DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetName="Button_Border"
Storyboard.TargetProperty="RenderTransform.ScaleY">
<EasingDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="0:0:0.0" Value="0.9" />
</DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
</Storyboard>
</VisualState>
<VisualState x:Name="MouseOver" />
<VisualState x:Name="Focused" />
</VisualStateGroup>
</VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<ContentPresenter />
</Border>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
</Style>

I found that the empty Focused event, which on a Button is only fired when it is clicked, was overriding the Pressed event. By simply deleting the empty Focused event, the Pressed event began working.

UWP Gridviewitem hover border is not shaped

I'm having a simple GridView which its items have corner radius.
The presentation of the items is fine, but when hovering with the mouse the corner radius is not applied and it doesn't look good.
in the example above, item B2.
I'd like to keep the reveal effect when hovering.
this is my code:
<Page.Resources>
<DataTemplate x:Key="PersonDataTemplate" x:DataType="local:Person">
<Border
Width="200"
Height="50"
Background="AliceBlue"
BorderBrush="#D0D0D0"
BorderThickness="1"
CornerRadius="90">
<TextBlock
HorizontalAlignment="Center"
VerticalAlignment="Center"
Text="{x:Bind FullName}" />
</Border>
</DataTemplate>
</Page.Resources>
<Grid Padding="64">
<GridView ItemTemplate="{StaticResource PersonDataTemplate}" ItemsSource="{x:Bind Persons, Mode=OneWay}" />
</Grid>
how can I implement that?

The pointer hove rectangle like the above screenshot is GridViewItem's ListViewItemPresenter style. if you want to remove them, you could custom GridViewItem style and set the related part as Transparent. And you could use the following style directly.

That’s because the hover border of the GridViewItem is defined in its Style!
By setting the DataTemplate, you are only setting the content of the GridViewItem, without modifying the presenting Style of the control itself!
You need to create a new Style, inherited from the default one from the GridViewItem and, from there, customizing the hover border and all the properties of the “box” that presents the “content”.

UWP Remove highlight from NavigationView

I want to remove the highlights from the NavigationView Menu Items
How can I make it so that on some MenuItems the highlight thing doesn't move to the item?
You can just simple override the default Color Resource by adding the following code in App.xaml or in the Page where the NavigationView control placed.
in App.xaml
<Application.Resources>
<SolidColorBrush x:Key="NavigationViewSelectionIndicatorForeground" Color="Transparent" />
</Application.Resources>
OR in page where NavigationView control exist
<Page.Resources>
<SolidColorBrush x:Key="NavigationViewSelectionIndicatorForeground" Color="Transparent" />
</Page.Resources>
For your requirement, you could modify NavigationViewItem style, and set the width of SelectionIndicator Rectangle as 0. You could also use the following style directly.
<Style TargetType="NavigationViewItem">
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{ThemeResource NavigationViewItemForeground}"/>
<Setter Property="Background" Value="{ThemeResource NavigationViewItemBackground}"/>
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="{ThemeResource NavigationViewItemBorderBrush}"/>

Animating SolidColorBrush in Background

I am trying to create a simple button style, that will change the opacity of the background from 0.0 to 1.0 on mouse over (and vice versa). I am creating a template for said button and I am binding all the properties in the template. It all works properly except the SolidColorBrush in background, that I can not bind to the template binding. I've seen some mentions of TemplateBinding not being the right one due to contexts, but I am not able to find another solution. I suspect, there might be a problem of Background being a Brush and I need just a Color component of that brush, but I am not able to obtain it.
The obvious override is to create two template styles with two different colors (which works), but I would like to avoid such hard-coding and copy-paste. What I would like to have is an option to specify Background property on Button, that would be used in SolidColorBrush and then the opacity would do the rest.
<Style TargetType="{x:Type Button}" x:Key="WindowButtonStyle">
<Setter Property="Width" Value="46" />
<Setter Property="Height" Value="32" />
<Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="0" />
<Setter Property="VerticalAlignment" Value="Center" />
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type Button}">
<Border BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}">
<Border.Background>
<SolidColorBrush x:Name="ButtonBackgroundBrush" Color="???" Opacity="0.0" />
</Border.Background>
<ContentPresenter HorizontalAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalAlignment}" VerticalAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalAlignment}" />
</Border>
<ControlTemplate.Resources>
<Storyboard x:Key="MouseOverAnimation">
<DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBackgroundBrush" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Opacity" To="1.0" Duration="0:0:0.15" />
</Storyboard>
<Storyboard x:Key="MouseOutAnimation">
<DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBackgroundBrush" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Opacity" To="0.0" Duration="0:0:0.15" />
</Storyboard>
</ControlTemplate.Resources>
<ControlTemplate.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsMouseOver" Value="True">
<Trigger.EnterActions>
<BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource MouseOverAnimation}" />
</Trigger.EnterActions>
<Trigger.ExitActions>
<BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource MouseOutAnimation}" />
</Trigger.ExitActions>
</Trigger>
</ControlTemplate.Triggers>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
</Style>
Then, the button is used like this:
<Button x:Name="MinimizeButton" Style="{StaticResource WindowButtonStyle}" Click="MinimizeButton_Click" Background="Green">
<Image Source="../Resources/WindowButtons/Images/win-minimize.png" Width="12" Height="12"></Image>
</Button>
Added Background="Green" property setting to test it, but did not worked.
You could use a TemplateBinding to bind the Background property of the Border to the Background of the Button and then animate the Opacity property of the SolidColorBrush like this:
<Style TargetType="{x:Type Button}" x:Key="WindowButtonStyle">
<Setter Property="Width" Value="46" />
<Setter Property="Height" Value="32" />
<Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="0" />
<Setter Property="VerticalAlignment" Value="Center" />
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type Button}">
<Border x:Name="border" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}"
Background="{TemplateBinding Background}">
<ContentPresenter HorizontalAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalAlignment}" VerticalAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalAlignment}" />
</Border>
<ControlTemplate.Resources>
<Storyboard x:Key="MouseOverAnimation">
<DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="border" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Background.(SolidColorBrush.Opacity)" To="1.0" Duration="0:0:0.15" />
</Storyboard>
<Storyboard x:Key="MouseOutAnimation">
<DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="border" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Background.(SolidColorBrush.Opacity)" To="0.0" Duration="0:0:0.15" />
</Storyboard>
</ControlTemplate.Resources>
<ControlTemplate.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsMouseOver" Value="True">
<Trigger.EnterActions>
<BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource MouseOverAnimation}" />
</Trigger.EnterActions>
<Trigger.ExitActions>
<BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource MouseOutAnimation}" />
</Trigger.ExitActions>
</Trigger>
</ControlTemplate.Triggers>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
</Style>
Answering my own, as always - you figure out the solution just after you post on S/O. So I hope it will help someone:
...
<Border BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}">
<Border.Background>
<!-- ReSharper disable once Xaml.BindingWithContextNotResolved -->
<SolidColorBrush x:Name="ButtonBackgroundBrush" Color="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=Background.Color}" Opacity="0.0" />
</Border.Background>
<ContentPresenter HorizontalAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalAlignment}" VerticalAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalAlignment}" />
</Border>
...
I've included the ReSharper disable as well, because the warning form ReSharper was what kept me from trying this one - and desperation forced me to try it anyway.

XAML UWP Radio button icon aligned to center

Here's my code:
<StackPanel Name="stackPanelMain" Orientation="Vertical">
<RadioButton Content="Work" Style="{StaticResource Rick_RadioButtonOption}"/>
<RadioButton Content="Non-Work" Style="{StaticResource Rick_RadioButtonOption}"/>
</StackPanel>
Here's the style:
<Style TargetType="RadioButton" x:Key="Rick_RadioButtonOption">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="White" />
<Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment" Value="Stretch" />
<Setter Property="VerticalContentAlignment" Value="Center"/>
<Setter Property="Margin" Value="5" />
<Setter Property="FontSize" Value="18" />
<Setter Property="Padding" Value="27" />
</Style>
I've increased the padding so it is more obvious what is happeing. The text is centred as expected/required but the actual radio button remains top-left:
How do I get the radio button centred vertically and to the right slightly? I have tried the solution here but it doesn't work for my situation.
EDIT
As per #asitis request - this is what I get if I set these 2 properties in the style:
<Setter Property="Background" Value="Red" />
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="Red" />
This can be done just with modifying of the default style of a RadioButton. You can use the LiveVisualTree to see the default style of RadioButton, a RadioButton is actually a Grid, which contains another Grid with 3 Ellipses and a ContentPresenter like this:
Using the Live Visual Tree can get a real-time view of your running XAML code, you can use this tool in VS2015 when you debug the app, open it at the left side of vs2015:
If you edit a copy of the RadioButton's default style, you can see the Grid with 3 Ellipses is like this <Grid Height="32" VerticalAlignment="Top">. This is the reason why your Ellipses is on the top. So you can customize the style like this:
<Style x:Key="RadioButtonStyle" TargetType="RadioButton">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent" />
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{ThemeResource SystemControlForegroundBaseHighBrush}" />
<!--<Setter Property="Padding" Value="8,6,0,0" />-->
<Setter Property="Padding" Value="27" />
<Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment" Value="Left" />
<Setter Property="VerticalAlignment" Value="Center" />
<Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Left" />
<Setter Property="VerticalContentAlignment" Value="Top" />
<Setter Property="FontFamily" Value="{ThemeResource ContentControlThemeFontFamily}" />
<Setter Property="FontSize" Value="18" />
<Setter Property="Margin" Value="5" />
<Setter Property="MinWidth" Value="120" />
<Setter Property="UseSystemFocusVisuals" Value="True" />
<Setter Property="Template">
......
<Grid Height="32" VerticalAlignment="Center">
<Ellipse x:Name="OuterEllipse" Height="20" Stroke="{ThemeResource SystemControlForegroundBaseMediumHighBrush}" StrokeThickness="{ThemeResource RadioButtonBorderThemeThickness}" UseLayoutRounding="False" Width="20" />
<Ellipse x:Name="CheckOuterEllipse" Fill="{ThemeResource SystemControlHighlightTransparentBrush}" Height="20" Opacity="0" Stroke="{ThemeResource SystemControlHighlightAltAccentBrush}" StrokeThickness="{ThemeResource RadioButtonBorderThemeThickness}" UseLayoutRounding="False" Width="20" />
<Ellipse x:Name="CheckGlyph" Fill="{ThemeResource SystemControlHighlightAltBaseMediumHighBrush}" Height="10" Opacity="0" UseLayoutRounding="False" Width="10" />
</Grid>
......
</Style>
By the way, to modify the template of RadioButton, we can select the "[RadioButton]" in "Document Outline" and right click, then select "Edit Template" → "Edit a Copy...".
set verticalAligment property as a center for RadioButton ,
Ellipse in the Radiobutton is always on top, To solve this problem, you must change the template

and apply it to your radio button in this manner:
<RadioButton Content="Non-Work" Style="{StaticResource Rick_RadioButtonOption}" Template="{StaticResource RadioButtonControlTemplate1}"/>
Margin and Padding have 4 values: Left, Top, Right, Bottom. If you use one value only, all four values will be set identical. To move a RadioButton to the right you must increase the Left Margin value. You should also use TargetType="{x:Type RadioButton}":
<Style TargetType="{x:Type RadioButton}" x:Key="Rick_RadioButtonOption">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="White" />
<Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment" Value="Stretch" />
<Setter Property="VerticalContentAlignment" Value="Center" />
<Setter Property="Margin" Value="10,5,5,5" />
<Setter Property="FontSize" Value="18" />
<Setter Property="Padding" Value="27" />
</Style>

Understanding WPF Control Styles and Templates

I am relatively new to .NET/C#/WPF/XAML. I have noticed sometimes controls seem to be "missing" the simplest properties to affect style. As a result, the class Style must be used to modify the the look-and-feel of a control. This is OK, but I find myself hunting on Google/StackOverflow to find the name of a particular attribute to modify.
I am searching for a canonical and complete source of default Control Styles and Templates for ALL .NET Framework WPF controls.
Before you answer too quickly, please keep reading to understand my confusion.
On this Microsoft doc page DataGrid Styles and Templates, I see the template for DataGridCell:
<!--Style and template for the DataGridCell.-->
<Style TargetType="{x:Type DataGridCell}">
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type DataGridCell}">
<Border x:Name="border"
BorderBrush="Transparent"
BorderThickness="1"
Background="Transparent"
SnapsToDevicePixels="True">
<VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<VisualStateGroup x:Name="FocusStates">
<VisualState x:Name="Unfocused" />
<VisualState x:Name="Focused" />
</VisualStateGroup>
<VisualStateGroup x:Name="CurrentStates">
<VisualState x:Name="Regular" />
<VisualState x:Name="Current">
<Storyboard>
<ColorAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetName="border"
Storyboard.TargetProperty="(Border.BorderBrush).
(SolidColorBrush.Color)">
<EasingColorKeyFrame KeyTime="0"
Value="{StaticResource DatagridCurrentCellBorderColor}" />
</ColorAnimationUsingKeyFrames
>
</Storyboard>
</VisualState>
</VisualStateGroup>
</VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<ContentPresenter SnapsToDevicePixels="{TemplateBinding SnapsToDevicePixels}" />
</Border>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
</Style>
This page from MSDN forums, shows the following Style/Triggers/Setters.
<SolidColorBrush x:Key="{x:Static DataGrid.FocusBorderBrushKey}" Color="#FF000000"/>
<Style TargetType="{x:Type DataGridCell}">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent"/>
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="Transparent"/>
<Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="1"/>
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type DataGridCell}">
<Border BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" SnapsToDevicePixels="True">
<ContentPresenter SnapsToDevicePixels="{TemplateBinding SnapsToDevicePixels}"/>
</Border>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
<Style.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsSelected" Value="True">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.HighlightBrushKey}}"/>
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.HighlightTextBrushKey}}"/>
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.HighlightBrushKey}}"/>
</Trigger>
<Trigger Property="IsKeyboardFocusWithin" Value="True">
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static DataGrid.FocusBorderBrushKey}}"/>
</Trigger>
</Style.Triggers>
</Style>
Why don't I see properties Background, Foreground, BorderBrush in the first template?
I have a feeling the VisualState stuff is a reference, but I cannot find the source.
Well, the ContentPresenter is a control that shows your content. The VisualState stuff is just holding the references of all the VisualState the control DataGridCell can come across. It puts some animation on the Property Border which have wrapped the ContentPresenter.
You can redefine the the whole Style, I mean put some other control to redefine the content, and use TemplateBinding to get the external dependency property. Like I mean you can even use TemplateBinding Background on the border with VisualState.
<Style TargetType="{x:Type DataGridCell}">
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type DataGridCell}">
<Border x:Name="border"
BorderBrush=BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}"
SnapsToDevicePixels="True">
<VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<VisualStateGroup x:Name="FocusStates">
<VisualState x:Name="Unfocused" />
<VisualState x:Name="Focused" />
</VisualStateGroup>
<VisualStateGroup x:Name="CurrentStates">
<VisualState x:Name="Regular" />
<VisualState x:Name="Current">
<Storyboard>
<ColorAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetName="border"
Storyboard.TargetProperty="(Border.BorderBrush).
(SolidColorBrush.Color)">
<EasingColorKeyFrame KeyTime="0"
Value="{StaticResource DatagridCurrentCellBorderColor}" />
</ColorAnimationUsingKeyFrames
>
</Storyboard>
</VisualState>
</VisualStateGroup>
</VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<ContentPresenter SnapsToDevicePixels="{TemplateBinding SnapsToDevicePixels}" />
</Border>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
Thats perfectly makes sense. But if you do not specify them for a Style, it means it will fallback to the default Color and background etc that has been defined for the control.
This is a property of every dependencyProperty to fallback to the default value when new value does not override it.
You can read my WPF tutorials to get more concepts like this :
http://www.abhisheksur.com/2010/12/wpf-tutorial.html
Here you can download the default style dictionaries for the WPF controls Default WPF Themes.
It can be very helpfull to know how the default style works if you have to restyle a control.
