UWP Timeline control - c#

I am writing a UWP app which needs to show milestones against multiple, grouped tasks along a timeline of a video. Basically showing when a task occurred in the timeline. Image below of a crappy excel mock up of what I am talking about.
I have searched and can find some charting option but they are for WPF, javascript or .Net Framework.
Was thinking I could have a go at one myself using a grid as a base and I'm OK on this front for the moment, I am wanting to know if anyone knows of any suitable timeline controls for UWP or can think of another way to visualise this sort of data using available controls.

There are a number of options for UWP if you wanting to just xaml output a DataGrid the only free one I've seen is this
https://github.com/RSuter/MyToolkit
However if your willing to fork some cash there are lots of options. The obvious solution would be which is free for non-commercial use so you can give it a test.
http://www.telerik.com/universal-windows-platform-ui which has a great datagrid
the concept would be removing the first column and adding a new one at the end in a poll
The other option which I thought about mentioning before is https://www.syncfusion.com/ they have a graph library for UWP I have never used there product so I can't really say much about it except I believe they do have a timeline graph.

This is quite old now but I have just had the same issue. After a day of research I have discovered the SyncFusion CellGrid does this perfectly.

Create an editable table using WPF controls

Maybe this is not the right forum for my question, but I'll try anyway.
I am creating an application where I want the user to be able to fill in values in a table/matrix. The values are then going to be saved to a database I have set up. I want to build this application using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF). I watched the following video on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i4mYXSaD4w and it shows very well what features I want my own application to have. The problem is, the example in the video is made in Winforms...
So, my question, which can be split into three parts, is:
Is there a way to build something equal, similar or better, in WPF?
What/which control(s) should I use? Grid? DataGrid?
How do I use this control?
I am new to WPF, and do not have a good picture of what controls to use. I have read many questions about WPF's DataGrid on StackOverflow as well as other QnA's, but I couldn't understand how to do what I wanted, or even if it was possible. Therefore, I'm very thankful to anyone who can explain and lead me onto the right track.
I suggest you to read this article: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/30905/WPF-DataGrid-Practical-Examples

Dynamic user-interface, WPF or not?

I'm currently working at a application that helps people understand how to do there job. You can see it as a personal coach that guides them trough all the steps they need to do that no normal person could keep remembering.
In my previous application we had the ability to show the user up to 4 pictures (what proves to be more then enough). The application would load the data and see how many pictures where in every instruction and then sort out the picture in the best fitting way without messing up the scale and resolution of the pictures. This all was done with GDI+ and worked very well.
Ofc, change is something that always happens, my bosses came up with some great ideas. So they want to be able to see movies on the screen, animated gif's, 3D models that can rotate or animate. So I think we had pushed GDI+ to it's limits and it's time to look for something different.
I have heard and readed about WPF but have no experience with it. Is it even possible to do all what I ask in WPF? And what about the old picture-merging thing I wrote, can we also get it done in wpf? I tried to make some things working but I didn't went as smooth as I hoped.
I'm also concerned about the fact that the interface needs to be dynamic, the one moment it should be showing picture with some text above it, the other moment it should be showing another text with a video under it.
I would love to hear some opinions here and if you got some other suggestions I should look into pls tell me. Thnx in advance
PS: If WPF is the choice, should I convince my boss to change to .net 4.0?
Although my answer can be termed subjective, I find WPF better than GDI+ anyday. You can do everything you can in WPF which you have done/could do in GDI+ (apart from pure games/game engines). If you can afford the steep learning curve of WPF, I think it will be better investment as this technology is not going anywhere soon.
As for .Net 4.0, WPF 4.0 does introduces some important functions in 4.0 (specially easing functions for animations) but there is nothing you cannot do without if you are using 3.5. I won't recommend 3.0 though mainly because of performance in animations.
WPF is up to the task, but you could also check other options.
You could go web based, and have either an XBAP (WPF in the browser), or Silverlight/Flash app.
Silverlight/Flash doesn't require that much from the client (to install), and is easily updatable, and both can do the job.

c# Tree/MindMap GUI

i am trying to research some gui technology for c# where i can display a tree view (opposed to the standard one provided.)
Essentially i want to have the gui draw a tree of data (as if you were going to draw a binary tree on a piece of paper or something) Then making each of the nodes clickable.
If this isnt available does anyone know of something where i could have a mindmap type GUI which shows links between elements and those are clickable?
I can guess people will say make one yourself, in which case i give up already ;) thats too advanced for me and as i am on a work placement i dont think i would be granted the time to make it as there are more pressing issues to get working first, like actually making the programme work!
Thank you
You can take a look at the controls in Kevin's WPF Bag-o-Tricks which has a WPF mind map style layout. Here is a nice example. If you want to use more professional components take a look at the product from Nevron Software, they have some great controls. There is also an opensource WPF graphing library - graphsharp (which I have no experience with, but I found a nice article by Sacha Barber). Since it's used in nDepend it must be pretty mature.
I hope you get some inspiration from those links :)
I also found XMind API for C#
https://xmindapi.codeplex.com/
It's free and looks easy to use.

WPF How to design a multi-window Application?

im looking for some tips and hints how i can build up my Application in a good way.
So here are some informations: I have at the moment the Mainwindow designed with a grid which holds 4 frames. its looking like this.
At the top is a menu which let you select the different Pages. I have for the main area about 8 pages for e.g. a settings page and 4 content pages. The Sidebar displays some additional informations which can be choosen by the user and the bottom shows only a page when 1 of the content pages are opened.
So my content pages have ViewModels behind to fill them and im trying to use commands in the near future when im understand all features of them ;). So im trying to use the MVVM way, but im very new at this.
I don't really need a navigation menu like it is given from navigation windows.
So is it the best way for an application like that to use Frames or are there any better solutions?
Frames support the built-in navigation infrastructure of WPF so they're a good choice if you plan to use that. It does have some problems (at least some people think so, including me) but for simple/small applications it will do just fine. Of course they'll also work if you want to roll your own light-weight navigation system, like I usually do. I generally navigate by sending instances of ViewModels around and setting them as the contents of windows or content controls, and letting DataTemplates 'dress' them up as they are defined in the views. For larger projects I'd always recommend one of the awesome frameworks which include navigation systems like Prism or Magellan.
Basically it all depends on your requirements; there are a lot of ways to get it right. It's good that you're trying to use MVVM, try to stick with that and it will generally automatically guide you in a good direction.
I'd suggest using a docking library like AvalonDock to spice your application up a bit... however I have a bitter experience with it as it's not MVVM-friendly. I recently spent the better part of a week wrestling with it to make it usable enough in a MVVM scenario and I'm not sure it can ever be done. There may be other libraries that handle things better, but (full-featured, like in Visual Studio) docking is a complicated matter so maybe don't go there. Sorry, I probably felt the need to vent after the AvalonDock frustrations.

Free alternative to standard C# DataGrid?

The standard DataGrid is quite unresponsive when it comes to displaying large amounts of information. I tried SourceGrid and can live with the results, but see room for improvement. Can anyone think of any other free alternatives to the standard DataGrid that can handle large amounts of data? I am open to creative ideas.
After looking into XPTable and trying out ObjectListView, I've decided that SourceGrid is superior (speed wise) to both for large quantities of data, scrolling feels much smoother.
How about XPTable on CodeProject? Ok, it is a modified form of ListView but that might suffice and lighter. The source code is on sourceforge as it is more up-to-date then on CodeProject. A newer clone is available on github.
There is also a custom DataGrid here on CodeProject called SourceGrid, the source repository resides on github here.
I've heard good things about ObjectListView but I haven't used it. It seems to have a very rich feature set. In the past when I used Windows Forms I would have killed for some of the issues it solves as compared to ListView. Note that it's not a DataGrid however.
Not to sound like a shill but although you said free alternative, I still should mention the best Windows Forms datagrid I've ever used was Developer Express's XtraGrid. I've yet to see any grid in any UI technology come close to it in terms of usability and features.
Component Factory's Krypton toolkit has a nice looking one. It is free, however, I've never used it so I can't speak for or against it.
