I downloaded this project to play around with and get an understanding about wpf pages, however no matter what i do, i cant get it to build.
Source file 'C:\Users\mikeh\Desktop\How to Build, Manage and Navigate the User Interface of a WPF Application\C#\ApplicationNavigation\obj\x86\Debug\View\Page3.g.cs' could not be found.
I get this error for each xaml file in the project. I doublecheck app.xaml is set to ApplicationDefiniton, everything else is set to page.
I deleted the bin folder (although this folder did not exist in the downloaded zip)
How can i get this application to build? There has to be a way to force build this file without doing a build.
Assuming you downloaded the project and saved it to Desktop or My Downloads and instantly tried to open it, the problem may be due to a long filepath.
Rename the How to Build, Manage and Navigate the User Interface of a WPF Application folder to just Demo and try again. That should work.

I'm trying to get localization to work in my application. I can follow the typical example online and get it to work in a sample project. (ie. setting the Localizable property and the cultures).
When I try to use it in my application, it always uses the default resource file no matter what language I choose.
EDIT: If I go to the properties of my startup project, select Debug, and set the Start Action to Start Project, it will work. If I run the executable that gets created when building by selecting it in "Start external program", it will not work. Any idea why?
EDIT: When I use the Start External Program, the executable I am pointing to is not pointing to the bin/Debug folder of the project. I have a post build event to copy it elsewhere and am pointing to that. Because of this, maybe it is not able to see the reference files that are in the Debug folder?
When you localize a form, it creates a folder per language in the build's output path that holds a resource file projectname.resources.dll.
I have a post build command that puts our .dlls elsewhere. I needed to change the command to also push out the resource files so that they were in the same directory. Once I did this, I was able to get it to work.
In visual basic class I learned where I could find the .exe file once the program was done and run at least once. Basically we could take the icon for the .exe file and place it on the desktop so that a user could just double click on the icon to run the program without needing to open the IDE or look at any code.
Where/how can i find this kind of file for c# code?
Go to the bin/Debug folder in the project. (or bin/Release if you're using the release build).
You can also go to your project settings, then to the build tab, and in the "Output" heading read/change the "Output Path" setting. This will let you output the exe to some other location, or just see where it is currently outputting in the event that it has already been changed on your machine.
Assuming you're using a web application project you'll use the .aspx file that is generated to access your silverlight application.
The "application" so to speak is actually a file ending in ".xap" that can be found in your web project's ClientBin directory.
The .xap file can also be found in the silvelright project's Bin
If you're wanting to install the silverlight application to a desktop you'll have to enable the ability to run the application "Out of Browser" and it'll have to be installed. More information on Out of Browser apps...
I'm trying to publish project (tools vs2010), but cannot all the time getting the error below.
I paste to my projects files from another project and then I changed namespace (OldProjectName) to the parent project (NewProjectName). But it still getting information from somewhere about old project.
I cleaned solution, builded, rebuilded. Closed and reopened again and all the time the same error.
I'm able to build project but publish it.
Any ideas what can cause the problem?
Error 1 Copying file
obj\Debug\OldProjectName.csproj.FileListAbsolute.txt to
obj\Debug\Package\PackageTmp\obj\Debug\OldProjectName.csproj.FileListAbsolute.txt
failed. Could not find file
'obj\Debug\OldProjectName.csproj.FileListAbsolute.txt'. 0 0 NewProjectName
Open your .csproj file in notepad
Find "obj\Debug\OldProjectName.csproj.FileListAbsolute.txt"
Remove that line and save it
Open your project and try to publish it and this time you will be succeeded.
Note: if you are getting any more file like .pdb remove that as well.
Hope it will help you
Make sure the obj folder is not read only, if so change read only property of this folder to false. this worked for me.
Check the permissions to the folder obj\Debug\ if you give it write permissions, the error would go away.
Check if the folders "bin" and "obj" are checked-in to source control, if so delete those two folders in source control. There is no need to check-in these two folders to source folders. Also make sure that these folders "obj" and "bin" are deleted from your hard disk, they will be created again after a build.
Hope this will fix your issue.
It is your responsibility to make copies so you can go back to one.
Open your project file (vb/cs)proj with a notepad, and search for the missing files.
In my case I got this error when I tried to publish the project and certain files were not found.
Each publish attempt I got another file name, after checking that the file actually didn't exist in the project, I removed it from the project file, manually.
Then publish succeeded.
Delete the obj folder and build again.

Like many others these files were read only and needed to be deleted or actually able to be overwritten by VS. However, as may be the case for many others, the problem was because these files were checked in to source control. Your bin and obj folders should not be in source control. Mark them for delete and submit the changelist.
One exception to the rule is for the bin folder could be dll files that are not .Net compatible. Such as a C/C++ dll that you are using through a .Net wrapper dll. I mark them as content so that they get published and check them into source control.
I too had this problem. I resolved this by deleting files inside project bin folder (.dll and .pdb) and closed and re-opened VS .
The file named FileListAbsolute.txt was deleted from the folder obj/debug. Visual Studio can automatically recreate the file and others in the obj/debug for you.
For VS to recreate it, set the configuration of the solution and the project to debug mode. Then rebuild your solution.
To change the configuration mode to debug, from the solution explorer, right-click on the solution name and select Properties.
Select Configuration under Configuration Properties. Then select Debug from the dropdown list.
Click Apply and OK. Ensure that in Configuration Manager, the configuration mode is also a debug mode.
Then rebuild your solution.
For me using solution here: Certain Razor views not publishing
Excluding the views folder and re-including fixed it for me. So it's possible for anyone else experiencing this it may be as simple as excluding and then including the file/folder in question of your project.
I encountered this bug using VS2017 with a solution stored in OneDrive.I suspected OneDrive's sync mechanism to be the root cause of this.
When I tried to reproduce using VS2019 however it did not reappear. Looks solved in between these versions.
I have a VS2010 solution with 5 projects. Two of these projects are called:
MyResources
Application
The Application project contains all of the views and viewmodels for the application to run, and the Resources project contains all the images, resource dictionaries, etc for theming and skinning.
The way I have images set up in Resources, I have their build action set to Content, and Copy set to Copy Always. In my Application project, I reference these files using a pack URI. Example:
"pack://siteoforigin:,,,/Themes/DefaultTheme/BackgroundImage.png"
This works fine for me. The themes folder and all its subfolders are properly copied to the proper folder since I'm using siteoforigin://.
However, this breaks Blendability. When I load the project in Blend 4, I get errors.
If I use siteoforigin, Blend tries to load the images from the executing folder of blend.exe (In this case, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Expression\Blend 4 Beta\Themes\Default_Theme\BackgroundImage.png")
If I change the pack URI to the following:
pack://application:,,,/IQ.IQKiosk.Resources;component/Themes/DefaultTheme/BackgroundImage.png
It tries to look for the image in "themes/default_theme/backgroundimage.png"
If I try:
/MyResources;component/Themes/DefaultTheme/BackgroundImage.png
It tries to look for the image in "C:\MyResources;component\Themes\DefaultTheme\BackgroundImage.png"
If I try:
/Themes/DefaultTheme/BackgroundImage.png
It tries to look for the image in "C:\Themes\DefaultTheme\BackgroundImage.png".
So now I'm stuck. I'm not sure how to reference my images without having to embed them into the resource project, and I can't hard code the directory because my other coworkers have the project in different folders as well.
I tried to think of a way to get the proper URI to the proper locations of the files (relative to the .sln file would be awesome) or have the files get copied over to where blend compiles and executes the project. Alas, I am unable to figure out how.
Does anyone know the proper way to get these images to load?
I figured it out. Instead of using a pack URI, I just used
new Uri(Environment.CurrentDirectory + "\\Themes\\DefaultTheme\\BackgroundImage.png")
and it found the proper folder, since Evironment.CurrentDirectory gave me the proper bin folder where my themes were copied to.
Huzzah!
a strange behavior happens when install the application and then run the exe file.
first let me explain my steps:
1) i added HelpProvidor and i set HelpNameSpace property to the chm file path.
2) in the form properties i set HelpNavigator on helpProvidor property to : KeywordIndex
and HelpString on HelpProvidor to Use ASGATech Quran Sound Downloder Help
3) i created an installation pkg. and it runs successfuly.
My problem is when i debug the application and presses on "?" (which is the help button) it displays the chm file.
but when i run the sortcut on the desktop which has been created from the installation package it doesn't.
why is that the HelpNamespce is the same. and the exe which is in the Application folder is that same so why is that.
the exe file is the same and also when i created a new item in start -> program menu the exe file that created runs the chm file but the shortcut doesn't.
i put the chm with the application folder which throws the application folder on:
c:\program Files\Manufacturer\ProductName
and it put the file on this path successfuly so why he can't see it.
EDIT:
i found that the problem is when i uninstall the application it keeps the product folder
it only removes the icon ans chm and so when u reinstall the application he dont feel the new state (that he has chm file)
now how could i remove the product file from programFiles.
Are you sure the exe file is the same?
It seems that either the help file is not found by your application or that the current security settings of IE prevent it from being loaded.
Use a tool like Procmon to see where your application is looking for the help file.
If it is not found make sure that it is included within your installer package.
If it is found make sure that it is on the local disc and that the default security settings for your local machine have not been changed within IE.
