Windows Forms application option seems to be missing? - c#

I'm learning how to design a Windows Forms Application in Visual Studio 2017. The tutorial asks me to create a new project using the File -> New -> Project option and selecting 'Windows Forms Application' in the new project dialog box.
However, when I explore this option in Visual Basic, my New Project dialog window only has three options, and the Windows Forms Application is not one of them (see screenshot - attached).
Just wondered if anyone might be able to suggest how to get this option to appear? I have tried looking for the correct option in the Visual Studio installer, but I cannot find it their either.
Screenshot attached.

Because you need to install it.
Go to Visual Studio Installer from the start and check the checkbox .NET Desktop Development.
After that restart the VS 2017.

Open Visual Studio Installer, ‘Modify’ your installation and install the ‘.Net Desktop Development’ workload.

Add "Universal Windows Platform development" to your work load

no xamarin.forms BlankApp in visual studio 2017

I have just installed Visual Studio 2017 community addition. Furthermore, i have installed Xamarin Community edition. Initially i thought i would have to use Xamarin Studio in order to create cross platform apps. But later on, i figured it out from the internet that Xamarin Studio is only installed in MAC OS. In windows, Xamarin is installed in form of Visual Studio's extension instead. After completely installing Xamarin on my Windows 10, i opened Visual Studio and i didn't saw "BlankApp (Xamarin.Forms Portable)" under Visual C#/Cross-Platform tab. Instead there were only couple of Class Libraries and a UI Test App there.
How can i figure out the way to create Xamarin Cross-Platform on my visual studio 2017 community edition? Am i missing some extensions, or is there any update required ? Please help.
File > New > Project > Installed > Templates > Visual C# > Cross-Platform
Select Cross-Platform
Select Cross Platform App (Xamarin.Forms or Native)
New App Dialog Opens
For template select "Blank App"
For Code Sharing Strategy Select "Portable Class Library (PCL)"
Click OK, and you are good to go
Please, try this site in section "Creating your first app".

THIS IS NOT A DIRECT ANSWER, I tried lots of options from installing, uninstalling, modifying but I can't find "bank app xamarin forms".
SO WHAT I DID, Installed visual studio 2015 and found "that bank app xamarin forms" there.

Missing Windows Form Templates in newly Installed Visual Studio 2015

Good Day Everyone. Above is the image of the templates I have in my newly installed Visual Studio 2015. I installed it yesterday and noticed that some templates are missing. Specifically Windows Form. I don't know why it became like this.
What do you think is the reason behind this? And what should I do. Thanks.
I had a similar problem and solved it by installing the "C++/CLI support" under the Desktop Development with C++.
Steps:
1: click on New Project in Visual Studio 2017
2: click on "Open Visual Studio Installer" which is right above the Name field box
3: when the installer opens, click on "Desktop Development with C++" on the right-hand side.
4: check the "C++/CLI support"
5: Close down Visual Studio 2017
6: click the Modify button at the bottom left.
7: Re-launch VS when it is done.
8: if all has gone right, you should have access to windows forms in c#
The reason may be due to Windows Forms running on a C++ framework. Without the C++/CLI Support installed, the Windows Forms might not run.
Try to:
Close Visual Studio.
Open "visual studio command prompt" and run the following command:
devenv /installvstemplates

Visual Studio 2015 - Store menu disabled/missing for new Blank Universal App C#

I am experiencing a frustrating behaviour of VS2015 Community under Windows 10.
When I create a simple Universal Blank App C# after launching and testing the code the Store menu to create the app packages and launch the certification kit is missing. I checked that my developer account is signed in, enabled developer mode on the machine, reinstalled VS checking to install Universal App development and Windows 10 SDK. Nothing enables this menu. No more options to create apps are present, just Blank App, I had more templates available under VS2013.
It is also weird that when I select to edit appmanifest it never displays the editor, just the XML, it seems like the whole app store environment is disabled. The project is not being recognized as an app.
Another big problem is that the designer does not display the XAML files to see the graphical elements. I get an error screen with tons of errors about null exceptions.
I need to port some 8.1 apps to Win10 Universal and these set of problems are driving me crazy.
Any help more than appreciated.
Possible Fix 1: "Change" the installation to make sure the VS extensions are installed
In certain situations, the Xamarin installer might automatically un-check the install options for the Visual Studio extensions. If that's the cause of the problem in your case, you can install the missing Visual Studio extensions using the installer's "Change" command. For example, if you wanted to install the extensions for Visual Studio 2013:
Open the Windows "Programs and Features" Control Panel.
Right click the "Xamarin" entry, and select "Change".
Click "Next", then "Change".
Make sure the "Xamarin for Visual Studio 2013" option is set to install:
Enable Xamarin for Visual Studio 2013 installation option
Proceed through the rest of the installer wizard.
Possible Fix 2: Ask Visual Studio to set up the extensions again
Check if the Xamarin extensions have been copied into the Visual Studio extensions folder:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Xamarin\Xamarin\3.1.228.0"
If the extensions are properly installed (for version 3.1.228), there will be 60 items in the folder:
List of 'Xamarin\3.1.228.0' folder contents in Explorer
After you have confirmed that this folder looks correct, tell Visual Studio to try setting up the extensions again:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /setup
Possible Fix 3: Try a fresh reinstall of Xamarin
From the Windows Control Panel, uninstall any of the following that are present:
Xamarin
Xamarin for Windows
Xamarin.Android
Xamarin.iOS
Xamarin for Visual Studio
In Explorer, delete any remaining files from the Xamarin Visual Studio extension folders (all versions, including both Program Files and Program Files (x86)):
C:\Program Files*\Microsoft Visual Studio 1*.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Xamarin
Also check in the "VirtualStore" directory to see if there might be any "overlay" copies of any of the extension directories:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore
Open the registry editor (regedit).
Look for this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls
Find and delete any entries that match this pattern:
C:\Program Files*\Microsoft Visual Studio 1*.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Xamarin
Look for this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\1*.0\ExtensionManager\PendingDeletions
Delete any entries that look like they might be related to Xamarin. For example, here's one that used to cause trouble in older versions of Xamarin:
Mono.VisualStudio.Shell,1.0
Reboot.
Reinstall the current stable version of Xamarin using the individual installer (.msi) download link under Xamarin.iOS -> Windows or Xamarin.Android -> Windows on http://store.xamarin.com/account/my/subscription/downloads.
Possible Fix 4: Repair Visual Studio installation
Open the Windows "Programs and Features" Control Panel.
Right click the relevant Microsoft Visual Studio entry, and select "Change"
Click the "Repair" button in the Visual Studio dialog that opens.

WPF Development in Visual Studio Tools for Applications

It is possible to do WPF development (MVC, or MVVM) in Visual Studio Tools for Applications 2012. I am trying to find the templates but they are not here. First day in a new place and I've never used this version before.
Any feedback would be great.
Cheers!
Visual Studio Tools for Applications is a development environment for application extensions, like SQL Server Reports, InfoPoint, Word automation, and some third-party LOB applications. It cannot make stand-alone Windows executables.
You want Visual Studio Express for Windows Desktop, VS Professional, Premium, or Ultimate.
Within Visual Studio, go to File -> New -> Project. In the New Project dialog, choose Templates -> either Visual C# or your language underneath Other Languages -> Windows. Then, you should see "WPF Application" in the list.

Change from Windows Forms to WPF Application

I already made an application that is using Windows Forms, but I knew that Windows Forms setup was no longer available in Visual Studio 2013, that is made me to install both of Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2013. When I want to make some changes in my application and re-build the setup, I have to run Visual Studio 2010 rather than Visual Studio 2013. The reason because I am using Visual Studio 2013, because I like this version and I am using Visual Studio 2010 just because for when I want to make some changes in my application.
I knew about WPF Applications when I finished made my application. And I am considering to uninstall Visual Studio 2010 and work with Visual Studio 2013. Do I have to re-write everything on my application's code to WPF? Because from what I heard, some functions in WPF are not the same in Windows Forms. And let's say that I successfully change my application from Windows Forms to WPF, what setup is provided with WPF ? So the other users could use my application on their computer?
i knew that Windows Forms setup has no longer available in Visual Studio 2013
Windows Forms is still available as a technology in Visual Studio 2013. If you are referring to the setup project type for creating an installer switching to WPF will not make it available for you.
So you can switch to Visual Studio 2013 and continue using Windows Forms but you will have to find another way to create an installer (and switching to WPF will not fix that problem).
In my opinion the ViX Toolset is very good for creating an installer. However, it is not "drag and drop" as the old Visual Studio Setup project type is.
#Kaoru You have to make some changes, Because some of functions in WPF and Win Forms are different. You don't need to change the Application Logic. But you have to change some modifications in UI and also code.
I heard a tool something called WF2WPF But I never used it and not found yet it.
If you are missing installer projects in VS 2013, then you may want to try Visual Studio Installer Projects Extension.
This preview release provides support for Visual Studio Installer projects in Visual Studio 2013. You can download the extension from the Visual Studio Gallery.
