I'm trying to create a gym membership with various radio buttons as different options. I want the user to be able to select the calculate button and the cost to appear in the text box but for some reason my if the statement is adding all the radio button costs together instead of just the one the user selects.
private void calculatebutton_click(object sender, eventargs e)
{
int membershipcost = 0;
if (basicradiobutton.checked);
membershipcost += 10;
if (regularradiobutton.checked);
membershipcost += 15;
if (premiumradiobutton.checked);
membershipcost += 20;
membershipcosttxtbx.text = membershipcost.tostring();
You need to remove the semicolons from your if statements or format your code like so:
private void calculatebutton_click(object sender, eventargs e)
{
int membershipcost = 0;
if (basicradiobutton.checked)
{
membershipcost += 10;
}
if (regularradiobutton.checked)
{
membershipcost += 15;
}
if (premiumradiobutton.checked)
{
membershipcost += 20;
}
membershipcosttxtbx.text = membershipcost.tostring();
}
Your C# is not written correctly. I suggest to use { & } to define a code block associated with the if condition. You can create a single line if statement, which I have included on the second if. Putting a ; immediately after the if(...) will result in no action from the statement.
private void calculatebutton_click(object sender, eventargs e)
{
int membershipcost = 0;
if (basicradiobutton.checked)
{
membershipcost += 10;
}
if (regularradiobutton.checked) membershipcost += 15;
if (premiumradiobutton.checked)
{
membershipcost += 20;
}
membershipcosttxtbx.text = membershipcost.tostring();
}

I have i wpf form with 3 textboxes there i should write how many tickets, then i want to multiply that number with a value
At the end i have another textbox there i want the sum from the 3 textboxes even if only 1 has value
i have tried this:
private void textBox1_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(textBox1.Text) && !string.IsNullOrEmpty(textBox2.Text))
textBox3.Text = (Convert.ToInt32(textBox1.Text) + Convert.ToInt32(textBox2.Text)).ToString();
}
private void textBox2_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(textBox1.Text) && !string.IsNullOrEmpty(textBox2.Text))
textBox3.Text = (Convert.ToInt32(textBox1.Text) + Convert.ToInt32(textBox2.Text)).ToString();
}
Cant get it to work
Please help
To convert a string value to an integer value you may use int.Parse method. On the other hand this method (also Convert.ToInt32) requires you making sure that string is always in a good format to get converted. If you are not sure and/or you know that the string may be not in correct format, you may use int.TryParse method, which returns true/false value, stating whether the convert was succesful also giving out required value if it was successful. If it fails you get default value - 0.
If all textboxes follow same procedure you may create only one TextChanged event and bind it to all of them.
private void textBox1_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
int sum = 0;
if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(textBox1.Text) && int.TryParse(textBox1.Text, out int gold_ticket_count))
{
sum += 120 * gold_ticket_count;
}
if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(textBox2.Text) && int.TryParse(textBox2.Text, out int silver_ticket_count))
{
sum += 60 * silver_ticket_count;
}
if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(textBox3.Text) && int.TryParse(textBox3.Text, out int big_show_ticket_count))
{
sum += 500 * big_show_ticket_count;
}
// do smth with the sum...
}
Check if I named textBoxes correctly. It is a good practise to give your controls a meaningful name.

an ugly, quick and dirty but working solution:
public partial class MainWindow : Window
{
public MainWindow()
{
InitializeComponent();
}
private int sum1;
private int sum2;
private int sum3;
private int overallSum;
private void tb1_TextChanged(object sender, TextChangedEventArgs e)
{
if (int.TryParse(tb1.Text, out int tb1Value))
sum1 = tb1Value * 120;
else
sum1 = 0;
sum_1.Text = sum1.ToString();
RecalcOverallSum();
}
private void tb2_TextChanged(object sender, TextChangedEventArgs e)
{
if (int.TryParse(tb2.Text, out int tb1Value))
sum2 = tb1Value * 120;
else
sum2 = 0;
sum_2.Text = sum2.ToString();
RecalcOverallSum();
}
private void tb3_TextChanged(object sender, TextChangedEventArgs e)
{
if (int.TryParse(tb3.Text, out int tb1Value))
sum3 = tb1Value * 120;
else
sum3 = 0;
sum_3.Text = sum3.ToString();
RecalcOverallSum();
}
private void RecalcOverallSum()
{
overallSum = sum1 + sum2 + sum3;
overall_sum.Text = overallSum.ToString();
}
}
BTW: I would recommend using MVVM instead of code behind, but I know it wasn't the question
I am having a problem . I want to use if statement to check if a button is clicked. For Example:
public void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
while (1)
{
...
...
...
if (Button2 == clicked)
{
break;
}
}
}
But it's not working like this, because the ".click" can only be on the left side of "+=" or "-=". Any idea how i can check if Button2 is clicked?
the code is loking like this: and i want to check button2 to stop the "programm".
the check for the Button2 is nearly at the end of the code ;)

Hm...
bool b1clicked = false, b2clicked = false;
public void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
b2clicked = true;
}
public void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
b1clicked = true;
if (b1clicked && b2clicked)
{
//...
}
}
Beside the weird behavior you want..and since you are not using Threads, you have the following options:
Local functions (.Net > 4.7)
private void B_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
bool clickFlag = false;
void Click(object sender2, EventArgs e2)
{
clickFlag = true;
}
b2.Click += Click;
while (!clickFlag)
{
Thread.Sleep(1);
}
b2.Click -= Click;
//Continue with your stuff
}
Threads
Thread newThread;
private void Button1_Click()
{
newThread = new Thread(YourBreakableProcess);
newThread.Start();
}
private void Button2_Click()
{
newThread.Join();
}
private void YourBreakableProcess()
{
//Your breakable process
}
Async methods.
I hope you find a solution. Cheers.
Edit:
Since what you want is to interrupt the process of whatever you are doing, the only option you have is Local fuctions as shown above, if you are not tied to a specific framework version.
BackgroundWorker and check in every step if the button 2 was pressed with the flag thing mentioned in other answer.
Threads, and make a thread.Join when the button 2 is pressed.
Edit 2:
Updated answer with Threads, I will recommend that if you go with this option it is much better to use a BackgroundWorker instead as you will have the whole control of the process breaking it only in the place where it would be fine to break it.
You can achieve this using a flag variable. Declare and initialize flag value to false.On button2 click change flag value to true as follows,
private bool flag= false;
private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
flag= true;
}
public void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//Use flag to check whether button 2 has clicked or not
if (flag)
{
}
else
{
}
}
private void _btnOK_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
_label1.Hide();
_label2.Hide();
_label3.Hide();
for(int i = 1; i <= 100; i++)
{
Thread.Sleep(5);
_circularprogressbar.Value = i;
_circularprogressbar.Update();
}
}
private void LoadingScreen_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
_circularprogressbar.Value = 0;
_circularprogressbar.Minimum = 0;
_circularprogressbar.Maximum = 100;
}
}
}
This is my code. What i want to do is, i want to have a text inside the progress bar that shows the percentage of the progress from 1 to 100 percent.
what can i add to my code?
thank you
Here is what i would do:
private void _btnOK_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
_label1.Hide();
_label2.Hide();
_label3.Hide();
for(int i = 1; i <= 100; i++)
{
_circularprogressbar.Value = i;
_percent_lable_name.Text = string.Format("{0}%", _circularprogressbar.Value);
_circularprogressbar.Update();
}
}
private void LoadingScreen_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
_circularprogressbar.Value = 0;
_circularprogressbar.Minimum = 0;
_circularprogressbar.Maximum = 100;
}
}
See if that helps you!
Thanks
Techcraft7 :)
That Thread.Sleep(5) is blocking your entire UI thread. If you want to have your UI responsive, while the progress takes place, you need to make a separate thread for it. Something like this:
private void _btnOK_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
_label1.Hide();
_label2.Hide();
_label3.Hide();
Task.Factory.StartNew(() =>
{
for (int i = 1; i <= 100; i++)
{
Thread.Sleep(5);
Invoke((Action)(() =>
{
_circularprogressbar.Value = i;
_circularprogressbar.Update();
}));
}
});
}
Note that you will need t use Invoke to BeginInvoke to access UI components from inside that thread.
I am developing an exe file
Which creates dynamic textboxes(no. of textboxes depends upon the user input in the one already provided textbox),
In the beginning it focus on the 1st textbox,
It should move focus to next textbox on click of "ENTER" key.
What I'm trying is:
private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
int a = 10;
for (int i = 1; i < 5; i++)
{
TextBox txtbx;
txtbx = new TextBox();
txtbx.Location = new Point(10, a);
a += 30;
this.Controls.Add(txtbx);
if(i==1)
{
txtbx.Focus();
}
}
}
public void Form1_KeyPessed(object sender, KeyEventArgs e)
{
if (e.KeyCode == Keys.ENTER)
{
SendKeys.Send("{TAB}");
}
}
Need to use Control.TabIndex Property and you need to bind key down event for each newly created Text box
Try this :
private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
int a = 10;
for (int i = 1; i < 5; i++)
{
TextBox txtbx;
txtbx = new TextBox();
txtbx.Location = new Point(10, a);
txtbx.KeyDown += Txtbx_KeyDown; //Added
txtbx.TabIndex = i; //Added
a += 30;
this.Controls.Add(txtbx);
if (i == 1)
{
txtbx.Focus();
}
}
}
Now add Key down handler
//Added
private void Txtbx_KeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e)
{
if (e.KeyCode.Equals(Keys.Enter))
{
SendKeys.Send("{TAB}");
}
}
I need to make a ListBox that displays how often a Button is clicked.
The user chooses how many buttons are available to click. Here is what I've tried:
int clicked;
clicked = int.Parse(((Button)(sender)).Text);
freq_array[clicked]++;
for (int i = 0; i < freq_array[clicked]; i++)
lstFrequencies.Items[clicked] = clicked + "\t\t" + freq_array[clicked];
freq_array uses the 'clicked' variable to add to the frequency that button has been clicked. Or, it's supposed to.
When I debug it, 'clicked' always comes out to 0. I want 'clicked' to equal the text value of the button that's clicked. When I try to run the program, I get an error saying "Input string was not in correct format."
Edit:
I was able to fix my program with help from you guys. I realized I didn't show enough of my code to be clear enough, and I apologize for that. I had to add some things and move things around and got it soon enough. Thank you all.
Here is the code just for those who may need help in the future:
public partial class Form1 : Form
{
int[] freq_array = new int[11];
int[] numList = new int[11];
int oBase = 0;
public Form1()
{
InitializeComponent();
}
private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
invisiblity();
}
private void invisiblity()
{
foreach (Control ctrl in this.Controls)
{
if (ctrl is Button)
if (Char.IsDigit(ctrl.Text[0]))
ctrl.Visible = false;
}
}
private void btnSetBase_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Form2 frmDialog = new Form2();
frmDialog.ShowDialog(this);
if (frmDialog.DialogResult == DialogResult.OK)
{
oBase = frmDialog.Base;
//lblOutDigits.Text = oBase.ToString();
for (int i = 0; i < oBase; i++)
{
numList[i] = i;
}
}
ShowBaseButtons(oBase);
}
private void ShowBaseButtons(int last_digit)
{
invisiblity();
foreach (Control ctrl in this.Controls)
{
if (ctrl is Button)
if (Char.IsDigit(ctrl.Text[0]))
if (int.Parse(ctrl.Text) <= last_digit - 1)
ctrl.Visible = true;
}
}
private void btnN_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
lblOutDigits.Text += ((Button)(sender)).Text;
int clicked = int.Parse(((Button)(sender)).Text);
freq_array[clicked]++;
}
private void btnShowFreq_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
lstFrequencies.Items.Clear();
for (int i = 0; i < oBase; i++)
lstFrequencies.Items.Add(numList[i] + " \t\t\t" + freq_array[i]);
}
Your code should work as long as your Button Text is actually just a number. Since what you are trying to do is create an index, what I usually do is use the Tag Property of the control, set it to the Index I want in the designer and then cast that to an Int.
i.e.
if (int.TryParse(((Button)sender).Tag.ToString(), out clicked))
freq_array[clicked]++;
I believe what is happening is that you are not initializing your ListBox, This example Code does work using your initial method. Just create a new Form and paste it in and test.
public partial class Form1 : Form
{
ListBox lstFrequencies = new ListBox();
int[] freq_array = new int[10];
public Form1()
{
InitializeComponent();
Size = new Size(400, 400);
lstFrequencies.Location = new Point(150, 0);
lstFrequencies.Size = new Size(150, 200);
Controls.Add(lstFrequencies);
int top = 0;
for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++)
{
Button btn = new Button();
btn.Size = new Size(70, 30);
btn.Location = new Point(5, top);
Controls.Add(btn);
top += 35;
btn.Tag = i;
btn.Text = i.ToString();
btn.Click += new EventHandler(btn_Click);
lstFrequencies.Items.Add(i.ToString());
}
}
void btn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
int clicked;
clicked = int.Parse(((Button)(sender)).Text);
freq_array[clicked]++;
lstFrequencies.Items[clicked] = clicked + "\t\t" + freq_array[clicked]; //Cleaned up you do not need to iterate your list
// Using my example code
//if (int.TryParse(((Button)sender).Tag.ToString(), out clicked))
//{
// freq_array[clicked]++;
// lstFrequencies.Items[clicked] = clicked + "\t\t" + freq_array[clicked];
//}
}
}
Your code always comes out to 0 because you never assign last clicked value to button text. Try this code:
int clicked = 0;
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
clicked = Convert.ToInt32(((Button)sender).Text);
lstFrequencies.Items.Add(((Button)sender).Name + " " + ++clicked);
button1.Text = clicked.ToString(); // you lose this line
}
EDIT: Counter from variable member
int clicked = 0;
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
// if you want to display button name, change .Text to .Name
lstFrequencies.Items.Add(((Button)sender).Text + " " + ++clicked);
}
