How to Delete rows in database based on Username in ASP.Net? - c#

I am trying to delete few rows by Username. But my sql query apparently not working right. instead of reading the column username, it looks for the name as a column...
Edit: What im trying to achieve is to remove rows with the username John Rose... but insead it says its looking for the column name John Rose
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: 'Invalid column name 'Jack Rose'.'
This code is in the checkout button. Im showing the whole code just incase the cause might be outide of the delete query code.
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string Username = Session["Username"].ToString();
con.Open();
string query = "INSERT INTO GuestOrder (Order_Id, Username, Order_Date, GrandTotal) values (#Order_Id, #Username, #Order_Date, #GrandTotal)";
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(query, con);
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#Order_Id", Label_OrderId.Text);
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#Username", Username);
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#Order_Date", Label_OrderDate.Text);
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#GrandTotal", Label_Grand.Text);
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
con.Close();
string sql = "DELETE FROM Cart WHERE Username =" + Username+"";
con.Open();
SqlCommand cmd1 = new SqlCommand(sql, con);
cmd1.ExecuteNonQuery();
con.Close();
con.Dispose();
string strSQL = "SELECT * FROM GuestOrder";
SqlDataAdapter dt = new SqlDataAdapter(strSQL, con);
DataSet ds = new DataSet("orderdetails");
dt.Fill(ds, "order");
ds.WriteXml(Server.MapPath(#".\xml\orders.xml"));
Response.Redirect("SuccessfulOrder.aspx");
con.Close();
}

You should use this as below:
string sql = "DELETE FROM Cart WHERE Username = #Username";

You need to put username in single quotes as below
string sql = "DELETE FROM Cart WHERE Username = '" + Username+"'";
or You can use parameterized version of this query to avoid the sql injection as
below:
string sql = "DELETE FROM Cart WHERE Username = #Username";

Trying to insert int variable into SQL Server table

protected void addItem_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
String CS = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DatabaseConnectionString"].ConnectionString;
using (SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(CS))
{
string PID;
Button oButton = (Button)sender;
PID = oButton.CommandArgument.ToString();
int productId = Convert.ToInt32(PID);
Debug.Write(productId);
string email = (string)(Session["email"]);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("insert into basket (productId, email) values( productId,'" + email + "')", con);
con.Open();
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
}
}
When my query executes, I get an error
Invalid column name 'productId'
As you can see, I have converted a string into an integer variable, I have printed off the variable to check what it is returning. It does return a int as expected, but for some odd reason i can not insert into to my table. Any help would be great.
Hope productId is not the primary key of the basket table.
Then,instead of
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("insert into basket (productId, email) values( productId,'" + email + "')", con);
Modify like below
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("insert into basket (productId, email) values( #productId,#email)", con);
cmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("#productId",productId );
cmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("#email",email );
Why suggested to modify is to avoid SQLInjection attack. If you are unaware about that please go through the below link and learn it
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SQL_injection
Two issues here, number 1, and a big one, parameterize that query! You're opening yourself up to SQL injection attacks with code like that.
The second is that you're not actually passing in your productId variable, you're telling it to use the value for the productId column - which is also the column you're trying to insert into.
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("insert into basket (productId, email) values (#productId, #email)");
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#productId", productId);
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#email", email);
I can't stress enough how dangerous it is to dump user input into SQL that's going to be run directly on your database.

Checking if a user exists, and stopping a database insert (access database)

I just don't know how to check if the users exists in the database and stop it from inserting a new row to the db (which will cause an error as I set the user to be a primary key)
protected void Button1_Click1(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
{
OleDbConnection myconnection = new OleDbConnection();
myconnection.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=|DataDirectory|Event.mdb";
myconnection.Open();
OleDbCommand myCommand = new OleDbCommand();
myCommand.Connection = myconnection;
myCommand.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
string query = string.Format("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users WHERE uname = '{0}'");
myCommand.CommandText = query;
try
{
int amountOfUsers = (int)myCommand.ExecuteScalar();
if (amountOfUsers < 1)
{
String myQuery = "insert into users (uname,upassword,email,type) Values ('" + UserName.Text + "','" + Password.Text + "' ,'" + Email.Text + "',' user');";
myCommand.CommandText = myQuery;
myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();
Label1.Text = "user registered";
}
else
{
Label1.Text = "user already exists";
UserName.Text = "";
Email.Text = "";
}
}
finally
{
myconnection.Close();
}
}
}
correct your query:
query = string.Format("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users WHERE uname = '{0}'" ,UserName.Text );
Your question isn't clear at all but I can suggest a few things..
First of all, I think you forget to use your uname as a second parameter in your:
string query = string.Format("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users WHERE uname = '{0}'");
line. You used {0} but never point any value to this parameter. (I assume you don't have a username called {0}) Like;
string query = string.Format("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users WHERE uname = '{0}'", UserName.Text);
As a second, please always use parameterized queries. This kind of string concatenations are open for SQL Injection attakcs.
Like;
String myQuery = "insert into users (uname,upassword,email,type) Values (#uname, #upassword, #email, #type)";
OleDbCommand myCommand = new OleDbCommand(myQuery);
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("#uname", UserName.Text);
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("#upassword", Password.Text);
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("#uname", Email.Text);
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("#uname", "user");
i want to check if the username in UserName.Text is availble in the
data base or no and if it does i want to stop from inserting new data
Than you should use SELECT first to check your username is exist in your database or not like;
string query = string.Format("SELECT * FROM users WHERE uname = '{0}'", UserName.Text);
OleDbCommand myCommand = new OleDbCommand();
myCommand.CommandText = query;
SqlDataReader reader = myCommand.ExecuteReader();
if(reader.HasRows)
{
//Your username exist in your database
}
else
{
//Doesn't exist
}
you have missing the parameter uname , you have pass the text of UserName textbox to uname
for eg
"SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users WHERE uname='" + UserName.Text +"'

How do I check if a user name already exists in Database

I've seen this question asked a couple times but I couldn't find a good answer. I've been stuck for hours on this.
Basically I have usernames saved in a database and when a new user registers I want to check if his username is available - and if it is available add him to the database. And they register through a textbox called FName. The table is called Users.
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("SELECT FName FROM Users WHERE FName = ????? usernames????? ", con);
con.Open();
SqlDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader();
while (reader.Read())
{
Console.WriteLine(reader["text"].ToString());
}
How can I fix this code?
"SELECT FName FROM Users WHERE FName = #paramUsername"
and then you insert the parameter into the cmd like so:
cmd.Parameters.Add("paramUsername", System.Data.SqlDbType.VarChar);
cmd.Parameters["paramUsername"].Value = "Theusernameyouarelookingfor";
Check this out:
SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString);
string validationQuery = "SELECT * FROM Users WHERE FName = #name";
SqlCommand validationCommand = new SqlCommand(validationQuery, connection);
validationCommand.Parameters.Add("#name", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = loginUserSelected;
connection.Open();
SqlDataReader validationReader = validationCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.CloseConnection);
if (!validationReader.Read())
{
string insertQuery = "INSERT INTO Users (FName) VALUES (#name)";
SqlCommand insertCommand = new SqlCommand(insertQuery, connection);
insertCommand.Parameters.Add("#name", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = loginUserSelected;
connection.Open();
insertCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();
insertCommand.Dispose();
connection.Close();
}
else
{
//Uh oh, username already taken
}
validationReader.Close();
validationCommand.Dispose();
Things to note:
Use parameters, avoid concatenating strings because it's a security vulnerability
Always Close and Dispose your ADO objects

Enter data to particular column in sql

I have a text box that retrieve email from membership table in database. User may edit their email and update the new email. My question is, how to replace the old email with the new one? What is the query for sql?
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["Connection"].ConnectionString);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("Insert into aspnet_membership("i dont know how whether to write all columns or only email);
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#email", Textbox2.Text);
My question is, how to replace the old email with the new one?
You need an UPDATE in this case, instead of an INSERT:
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("UPDATE aspnet_membership SET
email = #email WHERE userID = #userID", conn);
It will work like any other simple update SQL Query:
update TableName set Columname = #Value where Username = #Value
Try this:
You may need UserId, and new Email to replace existing email address for the given existing user.
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["Connection"].ConnectionString);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("UPDATE aspnet_membership SET email = #newEmail WHERE UserID = #userID");
cmd.Connection = conn;
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#email", Textbox2.Text);
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValues("#UserId", YourUserId);
conn.open();
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
conn.close();
you need to use update query and not insert query.
see syntax here:
http://www.w3schools.com/sql/sql_update.asp
check this link from MSDN http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms186862.aspx
SELECT REPLACE('abcdefghicde','cde','xxx');
GO
As you want to Update EmailID so your query should be
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("Update aspnet_membership set email=#email where UserID=#UserID");
This should work for you, because your Insertquery which you are trying, this will always insert a new record instead of updating older records..

How can I get a username and password from my database in C#?

I have the following code in my btn_click event:
Sqlconnection con = new Sqlconnection("server=.;database=bss;user id=ab;pwd=ab");
con.open();
SqlCommand cmd = new Sqlcommand("select * from login where username='"
+ txt4name.Text + "' and pwd='" + txt4pwd.Text + "'", con);
SqlDataReader reader = cmd.execute Reader();
Where login is the table and username and pwd are its fields. After this code all the values are stored in the reader object. I want to store username and pwd in the separate variables.
How can I accomplish this?
In general, when accessing your DB, you should be using something similar to this instead to eliminate SQL injection vulnerabilities:
using (SqlCommand myCommand = new SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM USERS WHERE USERNAME=#username AND PASSWORD=HASHBYTES('SHA1', #password)", myConnection))
{
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("#username", user);
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("#password", pass);
myConnection.Open();
SqlDataReader myReader = myCommand.ExecuteReader())
...................
}
But more realistically to store credentials, you should be using something like the Membership system instead of rolling your own.
You're running a huge risk of sql injection with that. Use SQL Parameters for values into SqlCommands.
If you mean c# variables, and if you want to get them from db, just do this:
SqlDataReader reader = cmd.execute Reader();
if (reader.Read())
{
string username = reader["username"];
string pwd = reader["password"];
}
While you are at it, parameterize your query and prevent sql injection:
SqlCommand cmd = new Sqlcommand("select * from login where username=#username and pwd=#pwd", con);
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#username", txt4name.Text);
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#pwd", txt4pwd.Text);
Definitely heed the advice about SQL injection but here is the answer to your question:
String username;
String pwd;
int columnIndex = reader.GetOrdinal("username");
if (!dataReader.IsDBNull(columnIndex))
{
username = dataReader.GetString(columnIndex);
}
columnIndex = reader.GetOrdinal("pwd");
if (!dataReader.IsDBNull(columnIndex))
{
pwd = dataReader.GetString(columnIndex);
}
string userName = txt4name.Text;
string password = txt4pwd.Text;
Is that really what you want? Just to get that data into variables?
You really need to use parameterized SQL. There's an example here
Furthermore, your question doesn't really make sense; you want the username and password in seperate variables? they already are seperate in your example. If you are unable to assign them to strings I suggest following some tutorials.
Another approach is to load the reader results into a DataTable like so:
DataTable Result = new DataTable();
Result.Load(reader);
If your login table only contains two columns (userName and password) that are unique you end up with Result containing only one row with the information. You can then get the column values from each column:
string userName = Result.Rows[0].Field<string>("userName");
string password = Result.Rows[0].Field<string>("pwd");
private void but_login_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string cn = "Data Source=.;Initial Catalog=mvrdatabase;Integrated Security=True";
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(cn);
con.Open();
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("select count (*) from logintable where username ='" + txt_uname.Text + "'and password='" + txt_pass.Text + "'", con);
int i = Convert.ToInt32(cmd.ExecuteScalar());
con.Close();
if (i == 1)
{
Form2 f2 = new Form2();
MessageBox.Show("User login successfully........");
this.Hide();
f2.Show();
}
else
{
MessageBox.Show("INCORRECT USERID AND PASSWORD", "Error");
}
}
You can usually find basic usage examples on MSDN, like this one for SqlDataReader.
